DROWNING IN A MORASS OF BORING DETAIL

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it was another non-stop day of merriment and mirth and laughter and legs, with only a couple of annoyances. I managed to sleep till nine, and then had about forty-five minutes of orders to print out (it looks like our new release could, in fact, be sold out by the end of today), after which I attempted to do the jog but realized right after I’d begun it that I didn’t really have time to do even the two-mile jog. So, I did a really quick half-mile and then had to go pick up a reference CD for a potential upcoming project. I listened to it on the way home, and while it would be a very difficult thing to get right (a lot of repeated material), the music is really fun and I’m just a big fan of the composer, so I’ll spend a day or two trying to come up with a sequence that works. The film sequence is too spotty for that to work, plus several cues on the tapes weren’t used in the film at all. We’ll see what I can do with it, and it has to run at least thirty-five to forty minutes or I won’t do it. Coupling it with something else is now a non-issue, since I was informed that the coupling price was going up by a thousand dollars, and it was already high to begin with, so unless there’s something that I absolutely know will sell out in a day or two, I’ll only do single issues from now on. The profit margin in these titles is just too slim and adding that kind of dough onto them makes it too dangerous. I got some more packages shipped out and picked up some mail, but no packages for li’l ol’ me. I had some lunch at Hugo’s, and when I took a bite of salad (mind you, I’ve been chewing everything on the right side of my mouth so I don’t go near the temporary plastic crown on the left) the place where the temporary crown is suddenly was rife with pain, and it’s been that way ever since. I may have to call Dr. Chew this morning to see what he thinks. The crown seems to still be attached firmly, but I don’t like pain. The permanent crown goes on next Wednesday, so I think he’ll probably say to just wait till then. I printed out more orders, did some errands and whatnot, and then sat on my couch like so much fish.

I watched two more episodes of Lost, Season Three, both pretty good, but very typical of what the show does, so I’m finding myself a beat ahead of things – I’m sure that part of that is watching them all in a row like this. I really don’t care for Michael Emerson and his Kevin Spacey-itis – it really bugs me. I gather he’ll be around for some time to come. So, I’ve got three episodes left and then it’s on to season four. I then watched a motion picture entitled Pan’s Labyrinth, a film I’d never managed to see. It’s a very well made film, but the violence was absolutely sickening and made the viewing experience very unpleasant. It’s also quite a downer, despite its fantasy aspects. The little girl was very good, and the villain of the piece was truly disgusting. I thought the Blu-Ray was very good but not stellar. I quite liked the score. So, bottom line is I didn’t love it, but did admire its craft.

After that, I had yet more orders to print and then I answered some e-mails, and that was my day and night. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because frankly these here notes need a pick-me-up before they’re drowning in a morass of boring detail. Drowning In A Morass Of Boring Detail – that’s the title of my next novel.

Has anyone noticed it’s Friday and already we’re a week into August? Holy moley on rye, is what I say.

Today, I’ll get up early, jog, and then someone’s coming by to pick up some tapes. Another label is doing a soundtrack release and the studio could find no tapes on the title. I, however, did, and I made a deal for them to be used – part of the deal was to be ushered into the studio so that I could get my foot in the door, licensing-wise, so if you send lots of excellent vibes and xylophones for that to work out, perhaps it will, and if it does I can tell you it will result in some titles that will delight many on this here site. I’ll be writing a paragraph about the tapes and how I came to have had them (copies off the original masters that are now lost), and I’ll receive some sort of producer credit, I think, and, best of all, the Kritzerland logo will appear on the packaging. All good. Other than that, the day will be spent in printing orders and doing a few errands and whatnot.

The weekend is not too busy, and I hope to keep it that way, but next week will be very busy, each and every day, so it would be nice to have a day of relaxation before all that happens.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog, I must provide tapes for a soundtrack release (and boy is it a goodie), I must do errands and whatnot, I must hopefully pick up a package or three, and I must eat something amusing whilst being careful not to cause the left side of my mouth too much pain. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player, and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, a potential Kritzerland release. DVD/Blu-Ray, more Lost, more Planet Earth, a Moody Blues concert, and a couple of other things. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we do hope that these here notes weren’t Drowning In A Morass Of Boring Detail.
