MR. DINTHER HELMUT AND THE SEVEN MILLION POUNDS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this week is already flying by, like a gazelle playing the flute on a Saturday night. Actually, I managed to take half the day off yesterday and boy are my arms tired. I got up early and did the long jog, and that was very pleasantly pleasant. I had an early lunch because I was hungry. I then thought about the gazelle playing a flute on a Saturday night – I’ve only really heard the gazelle play a flute on a Thursday night, so I wonder if there’s a difference in the repertoire? I then had several important and long telephonic calls, wrote several important and long e-mails. One of the calls was from my handler at the publisher – she’s obviously new, and despite my telling her who to call even before we began this thing, she was stubbornly not done it, so everything has been difficult. She didn’t understand what we’d sent her – I explained it to her (we sent what we’ve sent for the last five books) and she said she’d show it to someone who knew more than she did. I immediately wrote my gal and within two minutes all was well, and now I’m hopeful of having a galley next week. I then finished reading the latest draft of the long musical, which seems a lot clearer now, although I still have several small notes about things that didn’t get fixed or still need to be fixed. After that, I went to the mail place where there was no mail, at least for the likes of me. I then came home, did a few more things on the computer, and then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched five count them five episodes of Lost, Season Three. Two of them were really terrific, two were pretty good, and one was simply dreadful. But these Blu-Rays are poster children for how great hi-def can look – there are shots that take your breath away. Of course, then you have no breath and that’s not good. I’ve really figured out who the good directors are, and I do love Michael Giacchino’s musical contribution to the show, which is major. And here’s something interesting I ascertained about actor Michael Emerson, who I’ve been calling Kevin Spacey-lite because it seems like he’s imitating Mr. Spacey. First of all, Mr. Emerson is about fifty-four years old – he didn’t do his first real TV show until he was forty-four. I gather he was in theater prior to that. And one of his only two Broadway credits, his first, was The Iceman Cometh back in 1999. Guess who the star of that production was? That’s right – Mr. Kevin Spacey. I’ve got about five more episodes to get to the end of season three, and then it’s on to season four. Then I guess I have to wait until December to do season five.

After I finished viewing, I listened to some of our new master (disc one) and it sounds real purty – mono, of course, but the mastering guy has done well by tapes that weren’t in perfect shape (they’ve been sitting in boxes unplayed since 1965 – tapes do tend to decay sometimes, but we got to this in time). I think we’ll be ready to announce officially tomorrow night at midnight. I also got a wonderful e-mail from someone named Mr. Dinther Helmut, who offered to send me seven million pounds. That was so nice of Mr. Dinther Helmut, wasn’t it?

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I have a very early and very long work session for the long musical and I must get my beauty sleep.

Today, I have a very long work session for the very long musical – four hours, at which point I will throw everyone out of the house, for CDs will be arriving soon thereafter and I must get them all packaged up and off to the post office. I’m hoping to get everything shipped, but some of the bigger packages may not go out until tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow I’ve kept very light – we’ll see if it remains so. Friday I think I’ll be having a meeting with Ted Detweiler, as he’s ready to begin putting his act together. I’m not sure what’s happening on the weekend. I also have to book my hotel for the upcoming New York, New York trip. I do hope we can have an official haineshisway.com get-together whilst I’m in town.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the two-mile jog (presuming I can be out the door by eight-fifteen), have a long work session, ship out lots o’ CDs, and then eat something amusing whilst watching more episodes of Lost, Season Three. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings whilst I wait for Mr. Dinther Helmut to send me seven million pounds.
