THE VODKA CRUST

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am quite exhausted because I had quite an exhausting but fun day here in New York, New York. Thus far, it’s been a really enjoyable trip. I slept pretty well but unfortunately didn’t manage to fall asleep until twelve-thirty and I woke up at six. However, I stayed in bed and slept intermittently until nine. I got up, put on my exercise clothes and walked to the nearby gym. I arrived there at ten-thirty to find the place virtually empty. I found a nice treadmill machine and proceeded to do four miles at a nice pace – that took about forty-five minutes, and then I did a brisk walk for fifteen minutes for a total of 5.1 miles and over 500 calories burned. I then hung out for a while, answered e-mails, made some telephonic calls, and then was on my way to a rehearsal with Miss Crista Moore and Alex Rybeck. It was a very productive session and we got to everything I wanted to – created two big medleys and created a potential closer. We also talked through some other stuff. Both Crista and Alex are very creative so I just sit until I hear things I like – I make suggestions, or ask to hear things certain ways, and by the end of it, we have what we need. After rehearsal, I came back to the hotel. I didn’t really have any time to relax, because I had a very long telephonic call with someone I haven’t spoken to since the whole bad business with a certain record label happened back in 2001 – Lanny Meyers. We had a wonderful chat and it was really nice reconnecting after all these years. He did extraordinary work for me and some of the albums we did are amongst my favorites, especially Unsung Irving Berlin. After that, I toddled off to FJL’s home environment for the haineshisway.com get-together.

Last night, I attended a haineshisway.com get-together and it was ever so much fun in every possible way. First, each and very guest was delightfully delightful – the cast list included FJL, Skip, Julie, Vixmom and the Vixter, both looking incredible, I may add, Ben, Jose, elmore, and a very welcome appearance by Rodzinski. What fun we had. The conversation was sparklingly sparkling, dish was dished, and Skip’s dinner, as always, was exemplary. I could not get over how beautiful the Vixter is, and Vixmom looks really swell – but then, everyone did. Toby and Dylan seemed to enjoy the company, and why wouldn’t they? Actual photographs were taken and will be posted very soon. We were there for three hours and it seemed like thirty minutes. A great evening, and I thank FJL and Skip for hosting it.

After the get-together, I walked back to the hotel. The weather was nice and the walk felt good. Once back in the room, I had to answer a bunch of e-mails and that was my day and that was my evening.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’m ever so tired and I’m really going to try and get a good night’s sleep.

I didn’t mention it specifically but now I will – Skip made a blueberry pie that was so yummilcious it was YUMMILICOUSLY YUMMILICIOUS. He served it a la mode, and I ate up every single bite of it. I think someone said something about a vodka crust, but I have no idea what that means. But if the crust was a vodka crust then bring on more vodka crusts. Using vodka in the crust does something to the glutens or something – I couldn’t make heads or tails of it, but boy was it good. That said, I do like a nice gluten every now and then.

Today, I shall wake up at nine, go to the gym and do the treadmill (not sure I’ll do it for quite so long today), and then I may try to have a lunch with someone. Then it will be rehearsal, and then I will go directly to see Skip’s short musical, which I’m very much looking forward to. Afterwards, I’ll probably try to meet some folks at Joe Allen.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the treadmill, have a rehearsal, see a short musical, and eat a reasonable meal. Today’s topic of discussion: Pie. What is the best pie you ever ate – where did you eat it, when was it, and why was it the best of the best. And then name all your favorite pies. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and let’s have another vodka crust – I’lllllllll drink to that.
