ME TIME

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, what a splendidly splendid day I had yesterday. I got up (that was splendidly splendid) and did the long jog. Upon returning I discovered that after all this building of the house next door, that it was not even being built for anyone – no, they put up a for sale sign, which means that some company acquired the property in a foreclosure sale and built a monstrosity on it, which they will now charge over a million dollars for – and I have no doubt that some entitled twerp who writes for television will pay that much – and then they can only hope that their job does not come to an early end. Of course, my desire is that the house sit unsold for a year, for that is what they deserve for creating what is a blight on this charming neighborhood. After that, I got ready, stopped at Gelson’s and picked up the cake, and then toddled over to Mystery and Imagination Books for my reading/signing. This was my ninth signing at the store (I was, if fact, the very first author to ever sign there). We ended up with quite a nice crowd – I think around twenty-five people, which is really good for this store – and there were several folks I didn’t know, which is always fun. I read the entire first chapter, answered questions, and it was all grand fun. In attendance were our very own Cason Murphy, cousins Dee Dee and Alan and neighbors Tony Slide and Bob Gitt, a fellow from the Film Score Monthly board and his lovely wife, a Facebook friend who’s a Nudie Musical fan, my transfer guy, John Davis, our very own Mr. Nick Redman and Miss Julie Kirgo, my pals Sean Spence and Robin Shelby (husband and wife – Robin played Eunice in the Nudie Musical reading), editor Marshall Harvey (he cut my Likely Stories spoof of Barry Manilow – Barry In Concert – and he also edits all of Joe Dante’s films), and others I can’t remember at the moment. After I read and answered questions, we then had cake, I signed books (including some of the older ones), and it was the best I’ve had there.

After that, I came home and Cason came over and helped me package up all the book orders, after which I drove them to the postal office and put them in the package drop. I then had to answer e-mails, have a couple of long telephonic calls, and then it was time to have dinner.

Last night, I had dinner. It was a friendly dinner with a new friend, Miss Charmian Carr. We went to Hugo’s, where we had a very nice supper and a lot of nice conversation, after which I took her home. She’s doing the Sound Of Music sing-a-long next Saturday night at the Hollywood Bowl – apparently they do this now every year. In any case, she’s a very bright person and it was fun.

I then came home to more e-mails and telephonic messages, and then I finally began writing these here notes. All in all, it was a perfectly perfect day, except for the fact that I have been stymied in all my revenge plans for the people I surmised would be moving in in a couple of weeks. Damn them, damn them all to hell.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I am quite tired and quite ready for my beauty sleep and some ME time.

Today. Let me tell you what I will be doing today. Nothing. That’s what I will be doing today. Oh, I definitely have to at least begin the liner notes for the next Kritzerland release, but that’s about it. I intend to do some sort of jog, watch some motion pictures, and maybe even check out the EMMY Awards (I think they’re this evening). In fact, let’s make this an EMMY partay. I shall also eat something reasonable and amusing, not necessarily in that order.

This upcoming week is going to be very busy. I have a ton of errands and whatnot to do, I have a lunch meeting tomorrow, I have the private table reading of the long musical, I have several events to go to, and I must finish preparing for and then announce the new Kritzerland title, unless I decide to hold off for one more week. I’m just not sure yet. Also, we’ll have to address packages for the Taras Bulba CDs – there are a LOT of those to ship out when they arrive and I’m hoping that will be around a week from tomorrow.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do some sort of jog, I must begin and maybe finish liner notes, and I must relax and watch motion pictures and eat something reasonable and amusing. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I get some ME time before the very busy week begins.
