NOTES IN WALTZ TIME

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is Sunday, a day of rest, and by gum and by golly and buy bonds, rest is what I intend to do. As I write these here notes, I am listening to Ye Olde iPod, and the last five tracks (on shuffle play) that have played have all been waltzes. Therefore, these here notes shall be in waltz time. Here we go – one, two, three, one, two, three – my goodness, these here notes suddenly feel Viennese, don’t they? Now I feel like some schnitzel. If I had a schnauzer I would name it schnitzel. Then again, if I had a schnitzel I’d name it schnauzer. Well, we’re waltzing along, aren’t we? Of course, if anyone has a clew as to what the HELL I’m talking about now would be a good time to let me know, because I certainly have no clew. If I had some schnitzel I’d have a clew. As you can probably surmise, I’m ready for a day of rest. Yesterday was not a day of rest. I got up early, did the long jog, and then had to toddle off because she of the Evil Eye was cleaning the home environment. I went over to Jerry’s Deli and had some bacon and eggs and whilst there I filled out a bunch of UPS labels to ship the big online dealer order. Then I came home and met Cason Murphy, and he put postage on all the packages, while I packed up the bigger orders. That took about two hours. Then we loaded it all into the motor car. First we went to Ye Olde Post Office and dropped all the packages on the loading dock. Then we took the overseas packages inside and got those shipped. Then we went to the UPS Store and dropped off a lot of boxes there. There were no packages an no mail for me, which was odd. Then we went to the Hamburger Hamlet. I wasn’t all that hungry, but I really wanted the nachos, which are hugely caloric and filled with fat grams. He promised he would eat two-thirds of them, and he did, so I didn’t feel too bad about eating the third I ate. After that, Cason took his leave, and I answered a bunch of e-mails, then finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I finished watching the last of the Nikkatsu noirs, which was entitled A Colt Is My Passport, which I thought was just terrific. Wonderfully photographed, well-acted, with a good script and very noirish atmosphere, and a very Ennio Morricone-like score. It ran a brisk eighty-five minutes.

I then decided to take a drive to Amoeba, as I had two large boxes of DVDs to trade in (I’ve been trying to thin out the DVDs). I got a good guy and he gave me much more credit than I was expecting, which was fun. I then got a few Blu-Rays, and a few CDs, and have quite a bit of credit left. I was going to get the Beatles box set, but they sold out of them immediately, I gather. They had the single discs, but I’d rather get one of the sets at some point.

I then came home, had some low-cal, low-fat ice cream and watched the first episode of Mad Men, Season One. I was interested to see the show since so many people seem to love it. I can’t say that I loved the first episode, but I liked it fine and thought the people were good, and it fun to see John Cullum guest-starring. The Blu-Ray looks fantastic and I’ll stick with it, because I like the milieu of the show.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below and let’s all be sure to click in waltz time. Ready? One, two, three, one, two, three…

Today I shall do nothing but what I care to do, which is nothing. I shall sleep as late as I can, I shall do some sort of jog, and I shall watch Blu-Rays and listen to music all the livelong day and night.

Tomorrow, I have the dreaded dentist appointment – I’ll probably be there about ninety minutes and then I’m sure I’ll not feel like doing anything else, but may have to anyway.

Tuesday, we have a two-hour casting session that I’m sure will go a little longer, and I have to try and get to my tape transfer place to check out the new tapes I picked up. On Wednesday, we’ll be laying down tracks for the demo of the long musical – I have to be there to supervise and perhaps make suggestions for the arrangements of the seven tracks we’re doing. Thursday, I have some meetings, and Friday we’ll record the singers on the demo, so it’s a very full and very busy week ahead.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do some sort of jog, I must watch Blu-Rays and listen to CDs, and I must eat something amusing. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, as we end these here notes in waltz time.
