NOTES ON THE RUN

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting in my car in a parking lot writing these here notes because stupid STUPID Time Warner is completely down, they won’t take calls, and they have no idea when they’ll be up. I drove to the Subway, where they have wi-fi, but their wi-fi is down and they’re not even on Time Warner, they’re DSL. Maybe it’s a conspiracy. But I fired up Ye Olde Laptop and managed to get on linksys and am quickly going to write these here notes and get them posted and change the topic, because who knows when Time Warner will get their act together.

I had a terrific day in the studio yesterday, just another exemplary session. Before I continue, may I just say it’s ten o’clock at night and about ninety degrees out. Unbearable. Anyway, we began the day with percussion overdubs and he got those done very quickly. Then our reed player showed up and we did all his stuff in a little less than three hours – he had eight songs to do and it went very well. Then Brent came, we ate some lunch, and began his vocals. He was in fine form and we got seven songs done and decided that one of the scratch vocals on one of the other songs was perfect, so that leaves us with only four to do today. Brent is wonderful to work with and we just have a real shorthand at this point, so we do a take, I say a couple of simple things, he “gets” it, we do another take or two and we’ve got it. It’s a pleasure to work with someone who doesn’t thrive on drama – he’s just there to get the job done as well as it can be done, which, in his case, is very well indeed. We were done by six, and I headed home, picked up some packages, and packaged up a couple of overseas orders.

Surprisingly, Bank Shot arrived a day early, so that was nice, and I now don’t have to hang around in the morning – I can go do the errands I have to do and not rush around like a crazy person.

I returned some telephonic calls, had an interesting conversation with Mr. Kevin Spirtas about various and sundried matters, answered a bunch of e-mails before the Internet and Time Warner parted ways, and then got in my car to try to do damage control in terms of these here notes. I had all sorts of interesting notes to write about our session, but I’ll save them for tomorrow’s notes.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because it is wretchedly hot in my motor car and my arms are getting tired from typing in this awkward position.

Today, of course, is our final vocal session, and we start at noon and I’m thinking we’ll be done by three. Then I’ll see if the boys want to eat then or wait and have some dinner later.

Tomorrow, Cason Murphy will be coming over at noon and we’ll be addressing and putting postage on packages, then packing the CDs, then taking them to the postal office. We hope to get everything out save for some of the overseas online dealer orders.

If Time Warner fixes itself I’ll come back and write some more, but for now I’m just going to get these posted while I have signal to do so.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog, I must pick up tapes, I must attend a recording session, and I must sup with the boys. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player. I’ll say later, but for now, your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we hope for a speedy return to the Internet, because I would like never to have to write notes on the run again. We enjoy writing them from the home environment at my leisure, and writing notes in a motor car is for the birds, not that the birds have a motor car in which to write notes.
