September 2, 2009:

WITH IT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this month is flying by, like a gazelle doing a wheelie. I am overwhelmed with things that must be done – not merely whelmed, mind you, no, I am overwhelmed. Mere whelmed does not begin to do the job. But it’s a good overwhelmed and I like being busy, so I’m jiggy with it. I’m down with it. I’m up with it. I’m sideways with it. Let’s face it, I’m with it. I had a nice, long day yesterday. I didn’t get to do the long jog as I had an early lunch meeting at Hugo’s and had to print out a lot of orders for the new Kritzerland release. Lunch was fun – I had, as always, the pasta papa and half of a Caesar salad. We were there about an hour and fifteen minutes, and then I did a few errands and whatnot, then had another meeting in the home environment, this one with Mr. Ted Detwiler, to discuss how we’re going to proceed with the act I’m putting together for him. So, we now have a plan and will move forward from here. It was nice to see him again. Then I had to print more orders, package up a few orders and get them shipped and do more errands and whatnot. I had several long telephonic calls, all of which went fine.

I then got the new Kritzerland master for the next release and had to listen to that several times to make sure I was absolutely satisfied with it. The fact is I was jiggy with it, I was down with it, I was up with it, I was sideways with it, and I was just plain with it with it. After that, I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I finished watching a motion picture on DVD entitled Carny, starring Miss Jodie Foster, Mr. Gary Busey, Mr. Robbie Robertson, and some fine character actors in support. I’d never seen it before, but I like all the actors so I knew it wouldn’t be a total bust. It’s an odd little independent film, when independent actually meant something. It really has no plot, it just follows a few characters and their lives, and then it’s over. It’s well shot, and Busey and Foster are terrific. Best of all, the film sports a really good score by Alex North (with contributions by Robbie Robertson) and any film with a score by Alex North is worth watching. This is one of those Warner Archive DVDs – this one sports a pretty good transfer with perfect color.

After that, I watched another couple of episodes of Adam 12, both of which had location shots in Burbank, including one long sequence right on the corner of where the Burbank Barone’s used to be. That was fun. I can say that the series seems to have peaked and the stories toward the end of season three are getting very repetitious and lame. Transfers are okay.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’m jiggy with it, I’m up with it, I’m down with it, I’m sideways with it, and I’m with it, baby, with it.

This morning, Mr. Handy Man will be coming over bright and early and also early and bright to put up the last of the new garage shelves. Also arriving early will be the Gaily, Gaily/The Night They Raided Minsky’s CDs, which I will package up and get to the post office as quickly as possible. At noon, Mr. Cason Murphy will arrive to help do all the bigger packages, and I’m hoping to be completely done by two, maybe three at the latest. After that, I don’t want to do much other than rest, because tomorrow is a REALLY long casting day and I have to be fresh and alert and, yes, with it.

I should be having meetings with Miss Alet Taylor and Mr. David Wechter at some point this week, and then it will be the Labor Day weekend, which I’m really looking forward to. And on the 8th, 9th, and 10th, there’s a Cinerama festival at the Dome theater on Sunset, and I may go down there to see This Is Cinerama, How The West Was Won, and something that’s never been seen here called The Golden Head (they’re also screening a faded 70mm print of the bastardized short version of Scent Of Mystery). We’ll see how many I get to. I know there’s a way to buy tickets online and I have to figure it out.

On Labor Day itself, I’ll be going to neighbor Tony Slide and Bob Gitt’s home environment for their annual do, which is always a lovely event.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the boogaloo, for today is the birthday of our very own dear reader Ron Pulliam. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own dear reader Ron Pulliam. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN DEAR READER RON PULLIAM!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do some sort of jog at some point if possible (it may not be), I must package up and ship a lot of CDs, I must ship big orders, and I must find something amusing to eat. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you dear readers get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, and if we do I shall be jiggy with it, down with it, up with it, sideways with it, and just plain with it.
