PRESSURE POINT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am quite ready to not have a day like I had yesterday – quite ready. Yesterday, as you may recall, was supposed to be a mostly stress-free day – just a little to do in the morning, and then not much else. I got up, went to the postal office where there was thankfully no line, then did a couple of errands and whatnot, and then came home to an e-mail regarding the Holy Grail release – last I heard was it was supposed to be approved within forty-eight hours. This e-mail said there was still some major stuff to deal with. I responded, then did a two-mile jog. When I got back, I had an e-mail saying that they’d call to discuss the points. I gave them my numbers and went to Hugo’s for some food. Whilst there, the phone call came and we discussed everything and came to some agreements, most of which were easy. I had to call the AFM and clarify something, which I did and which totally worked in our favor, so that was one less concern. I then spent three hours on the phone with my mastering engineer going over how we put the master together and trying to reference everything on the cue sheets they’d just e-mailed me. I finished that, and sent it to the powers that be, and hopefully that will go a long way to helping get us to the finish line. There are still two things that I await decisions on – depending on which way they go, I may have to do some further adjustments to the packaging, but I’ll do them if that’s what need be done. And just when I thought that was it, I got another e-mail and that one put me over the edge a little, and I wrote a nice but strong response, and there was a little e-mail volley back and forth, and we’ll see how that all goes. But the bottom line is that two people gave me assurances in writing that I could announce the title on time, which must mean that they think we can wrap all this up in the next week-and-a-half. So, I’ll just let them do their thing, make whatever adjustments need to be made, and hope for the best. Please send lots of excellent vibes and xylophones for a smooth journey to the finish line. By the time all that was done it was five o’clock and time to go live with our Kritzerland announcement, which we did. It’s the last time I ever do a five o’clock announcement – people seem to not be around the film music board at that time, and people who get the eBlasts aren’t always on their computers in the evening. So, the orders that came in were not that encouraging. When I do a midnight release it always works well because my overseas buyers see and order, and then by the time I get up in the morning, others have seen it and ordered. If it stays high up on the board then we’ll probably do better by morning. It’s such a good score that I just want it to do really well. By that time I had a raging headache. I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I checked out the Blu and Ray of Gone With The Wind – just a few scenes, but I was not that impressed with what I saw, either in color or sharpness. However, I had a headache and my eyes were probably tired, so I’ll withhold judgment until I am fresher with the wind. I then watched the Blu and Ray of a motion picture entitled Galaxy Quest. Back when it came out, it did not do the business it was expected to, despite it garnering excellent reviews. I don’t remember the campaign for it, but it certainly wasn’t high on MY radar, and it wasn’t really a must-see movie. But I went to the DGA and saw it and it was really quite wonderful. Watching it again last night it’s not only wonderful, it’s a miracle of a movie – even ten years later there is no way they would make this movie today and have it be as perfect as it is. The reason it works is simplicity itself – they hired really good actors who play it straight. And therefore the comedy shines through as it should. There are no crass jokes, no vomiting, no nudity, they don’t make fun of anyone – no, it’s warm-hearted, affectionate, oddly touching, and very, very funny. The transfer, while not the sharpest Blu-Ray I’ve ever seen, is fine, and the sound is pretty punchy. David Newman’s score is as terrific as the rest of the movie. Highly recommended by the likes of me.

After that, I had to consolidate everyone’s notes on the long musical and put them into one document and then I had two long telephonic calls with two different people on the creative team. The raging headache continued and I ate two bags of Fruity Snacks, which did not really help.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because frankly, like the title of the new Kritzerland release, I have reached my pressure point and need my beauty sleep.

Today, I wish I had nothing to do, but that is not the case. No, I must do the long jog, and then at eleven-thirty I have a two-hour lunch meeting about the long musical. I’m hoping it doesn’t take quite that long, but there are many things to discuss, some of them even about the show. After that, I’ll come directly back to the Valley, see if there are any packages for me, and then I’ll relax and see if I’m even up for going to the screening of The Informant. I’m hoping today that I have no pressure point and will try to make it a point of having no pressure.

Tomorrow, I have nothing scheduled and boy will I try to keep it that way, and Friday there is a potential lunch but not too much else. I really need a nice day off at some point soon. But I have new liner notes to write and all that attendant packaging to prepare.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog, I must have a lunch meeting, I must do errands and whatnot, and I must or must not attend a screening. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I try to relax and have no pressure point other than a LOT of orders for Pressure Point.
