AS BRIEF AS A STRING BIKINI

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am very tired and she of the Evil Eye will be here bright and early and also early and bright and therefore I will keep these here notes as brief as a string bikini. One of the reasons for my extreme tiredness is the fact that I woke up at six in the morning so I could announce the new Kritzerland release, which is, for those who live under a rock, Andre Previn’s brilliant score for Elmer Gantry. We were also going to include Elmer Gantry’s brilliant score for Andre Previn but we ran out of room. I then went back to bed for a couple of hours, then got up again and printed out orders. Then I went back and smoothed out the previous day and night’s writing, which took quite a while. After that, I began writing new pages and did about five. I then did a few errands and whatnot and had a sandwich and fries. I then picked up a package, then came home and wrote for the rest of the afternoon. I was then in the mood for something sweet, so I went to Gelson’s and did some shopping – for the sweet I picked up some low-fat low-cal ice cream. I then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled Forty Pounds Of Trouble, starring Mr. Tony Curtis. It had a few enjoyable things in it, and Tony Curtis is charming in these sorts of films, but the whole thing just plays too cutesy and the subplot of Curtis trying to evade his ex-wife’s lawyers and detectives is a complete waste of time. The little girl is cute, Susanne Pleshette is fetching, and Phil Silvers has a few really amusing reactions, but the whole thing plods along. The best part is that it was the first movie to ever be allowed to film at Disneyland, at least by a studio that wasn’t Disney. So, we get lots of Disneyland shots circa 1962. The anamorphic transfer is actually pretty nice, with excellent color.

After the movie, I ate some ice cream and wrote three more pages for a total of seventeen. Earlier, Cousin Dee Dee dropped off some reviews of Stages from its run at the Matrix Theater. I thought we’d gotten some decent reviews but I was much mistaken. They were downright pans, although the majority of the reviewers loved the cast. I think they were all put off by the style and structure of the show, which was very purposely designed to have said structure and style. Happily, the reviews yielded a couple of nice quotes and did us no harm at all – in fact, the entire eight-week run was sold out at every performance. Why? Word of mouth was excellent, that’s why. And with the exception of Variety, we had all fourth-string reviewers. It was really interesting reading them. While I occasionally got decent reviews for my shows in LA, it took until What If to truly get good reviews.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’m as tired as a string bikini – no, that’s not right. It’s something about a string bikini – oh, yeah, keeping the notes as brief as a string bikini.

Today, I shall have to leave early, and do some shipping, and then I’ll have some breakfast, then come back and smooth out what I wrote yesterday. I’ll try to at least do a few new pages. Then I have to go visit David Shire at his CD signing in Burbank. Then I’ll come back. I’m supposed to meet edisaurus and company to see Cowboy Envy, but it’s all going to depend on how far along I am in my writing. Also, I have to print out close to 120 pages for muse Margaret, which I have to deliver tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow, I have a visitor coming to visit and then have an early lunch, after which I shall buckle down Winsocki and write.

This week will be mostly taken up with writing, because the following week is going to involve some casting sessions for the long musical. I really have to be careful on those few days because I will not fall behind in the writing and everyone is going to have to understand that, and if they don’t it’s too bad because that’s the way it is until I finish this book – I’m thinking if I keep up this pace that could be in two weeks.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, ship, eat, write, attend a signing, write, and maybe go out in the evening. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite cheeses? And what dishes do you like to cook that use cheese as an important ingredient? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland in a string bikini.
