KISSED

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this week has flown by, like a gazelle throwing a shot put. And it seems to me that we’re just about halfway through January already, which boggles my already boggled mind. As some of you know, I got a new car about two-and-a-half weeks ago. I love my new car. It still smells like a new car and that is one of my favorite smells. My new license plates arrived yesterday. I am very particular about license plates – in fact, I guess you’d say I’m a little superstitious about license plates. I like to be able to make something positive out of the three initials on the license plates, and it’s an added plus if somehow the numbers on the plates either add up to my lucky number (doubtful), or include my lucky number in some form another, or at least half my lucky number. My last set of plates were baffling to me and I could never make anything satisfactory out of the initials – I think I finally came up with something that sounded positive and okay, but it was a stretch. And the numbers didn’t really add up to anything interesting. I’d already resolved that if I didn’t like the new plates I’d get personalized plates and I checked and made sure that the number and initial combo that I came up was indeed available. So, I got the call that the plates were in and I went over to the dealer and got them. I pulled them out of the envelope really slowly. First I saw the number 6 as I knew I would, since that’s where California is in the first number sequence. Then I saw the first letter – K – exactly what I’d been hoping for. K, of course, can stand for Kimmel or Kritzerland. The next letter was S. Perfect. S can stand for success or successful or any number of positive things. Then the final letter – T. Again perfect. T can stand for tremendous or triumph. And when you sound out all three initials – KST – you get KISSED. Well, that was just the icing on the cake. The question was would there be whipped cream and a cherry on the icing. I pulled the plates out the rest of the way and I could not believe what I was seeing – three numbers that added up precisely to my lucky number. What were the odds of THAT happening? I was, needless to say, thrilled beyond belief with my perfect plates. They put them on for me and now I shall be KISSED whenever I drive.

Otherwise, the day was just a fine day. I got up early and gave my final notes on the new rewrite of act two of the long musical. I was done with that in twenty minutes. Then I smoothed out the writing from the day before, and added two things to a previous section that I’d forgotten about. The happy thing about this book is that it’s fairly modular, and if I forget something it’s really simple to go back and insert it. I then wrote about seven new pages, then toddled off to Hugo’s for some papa’s eggs (no pasta) and a small Caesar (that was huge – no predicting with Hugo’s). After that, I came home, wrote another three pages, and then packed up about fifteen orders and took them to the postal office. I then finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on the DVR entitled Cellular. I hadn’t seen it since it came out. I didn’t love it then and it certainly hasn’t gotten any better, but it moves right along and Kim Basinger is pretty good in it, as is William H. Macy. Interestingly, the story is by Larry Cohen, who also did the story and screenplay for Phone Booth. I have to say that some of these hi-def transfers they show are superb, and this was one of them.

After the movie, I wrote three more pages so I could get a head start on today’s writing, since I have a few other things to attend to and I want to keep doing around ten pages a day. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’m very tired and bleary-eyed and I need my beauty sleep.

Today, I shall try to do seven pages by twelve-thirty, and then I have a meeting with composer Stu Phillips, the man who gave the world the scores to Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls and The Gay Deceivers. I’m really looking forward to meeting and spending some time with him. After that, I have a couple of errands and whatnot to do, and then I’ll come home and see if I’m up to writing another page or two.

Tomorrow I have a brief work session with the composer and lyricist of the long musical, then I’ll write, and then I have an early supper with someone I haven’t seen or talked to in ages.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, have a meeting, write, eat, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite modern-day thriller films, ones made in the last two decades. I’m sure I’ve missed many of them, and I always enjoy a good thriller. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I say thanks for my perfect plates – kissed indeed.
