NTOES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, did you know, for example, that in the last sixteen days I have written just over 40,000 words? All 40,000 of those words were “fish.” It makes for very easy reading and it’s really literally so much fish. Only kidding. A few times I throw in the word gazelle, just to switch it up a little bit. Can you tell that I’m overtired? I’ll just write anything when I’m overtired. Anything. See? So, let me just cut to the chase and say I had a very nice day yesterday. I got up, packaged up a few things, and then drove to the postal office and dropped them off, after which I got some bacon and eggs. After that, I drove to a store that sells inexpensive Blu and Ray discs and checked out their stock. They have a lot of discs, and every time I look at them I’m amazed by the stupidity of the studios and the crap they put out, instead of doing releases that people might actually want to purchase. As they initially did with DVD, they have totally misunderstood who their market is and what they want. DVD figured it out after a couple of years, and hopefully so will Blu-Ray. I only bought one disc, a film I’ve never seen called Breaker Morant, which I hear is very good. After that, I came home and began revising what I’d written the day before and also adding another two brief things to earlier sections. Then I wrote about nine pages. Then I went outside and spent ninety minutes cleaning out the old motor car. I started with the trunk, which was filled with junk. Yes, Virginia, there was junk in my trunk. I threw a lot of stuff in the trash, and got everything else consolidated into two small boxes, which I then put away in the garage. I then cleaned out the glove box and that was that. Then I came back in the house and filled out all the car paperwork to put it in my darling daughter’s name. I drove to Gelson’s and got some English muffins and some righteous red potato salad. By that time, my darling daughter’s best friend Skye arrived, I showed her how everything worked in the motor car, and off she went. I waved goodbye to that magnificent motor car that gave me eleven wonderful years of service, and I’m sure if my daughter takes care of it, she’ll get at least three or four more good years. Finally, I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched two episodes of The Sopranos, Season One. I don’t remember much of these, so it’s like seeing them anew. It’s one of the best-cast shows in the history of television. The writing is very sharp and the acting is just terrific. This time around I’m especially impressed by Lorraine Braco. And Nancy Marchand’s performance is frightening and inspired. The image quality of episodes two and three improved dramatically from the first episode.

Then I went back and did some smoothing out and some additions and subtractions and shuffling and that was as much as I could do, book-wise. I think I wrote a total of twelve pages. I wrote some e-mails, played on the computer, and then began to write these here ntoes. Ntoes? I think there’s a notes somewhere in ntoes, but I typed ntoes and now we have to live with it, don’t we? Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I need to get my beauty sleep so I can be a sleeping beauty.

This morning, I shall be printing eighty-five new pages to take to muse Margaret. I’ll take them to Staples for copying, but only if they assure me that their machine is not going to jam and rip pages of my manuscript, which has now happened twice. Only two pages, but it’s really irritating. I shall mention it BEFORE they print, just to see if they’d like to try a different machine.

After I drop off the pages, I’ll probably write five or six pages – I’m so far ahead of where I normally am, that I can afford one day of five or six pages. However, once I start, I tend to just go and go, so we’ll see. At some point, I’ll eat something light but amusing.

Tomorrow, I have several errands and whatnot, and the afternoon will be spent addressing a LOT of packages with Mr. Cason Murphy. I’m going to try and get everything prepped. I’ll have to really do most of my writing first thing in the morning, and then maybe a few pages in the evening.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons. Let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the pachanga, for today is the birthday of dear reader Noel. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to dear reader Noel. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO DEAR READER NOEL!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, print out pages, Xerox pages, deliver pages, write pages, and eat. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I put these here ntoes and myself to bed.
