SHMOOTZ

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, \\\\\\\\ oops (spoo, spelled backwards) – I noticed a key had some shmootz on it and I cleaned it and suddenly \\\\\\ happened. This is what shmootz does. Suddenly you have all manner of outrĂ© things happening and all because of shmootz. Did you know, for example, that Word thinks shmootz is not a word? Therefore, every time I type the word shmootz it gets underlined in red. Word thinks I might mean shoots and not shmootz, when the reality is I mean shmootz and not shoots. But for now, I defy anyone to say the word shmootz backwards (ztoomhs). That sounds like a Swahili word, doesn’t it? Not that I know so much Swahili – certainly not as much as I know so much fish. In any case, the shmootz is gone and now we shan’t have any more instances of \\\\\\. I had quite an interesting day yesterday. For example, I got up. That was interesting. I actually slept a little later than usual, which was good. I then smoothed out a little more of what I’d written the day before, and then I added three things that I’d forgotten to put in. Then I went and had a sandwich and fries, and then I toddled off to meet with composer Stu Phillips, who lives a mere three minutes from me. I hadn’t met him before, and he’s a very nice sort and I had quite a nice time. We were meeting to discuss a couple of potential projects, and we agreed on the one we want to do, so, yes, Virginia, there will be a Stu Phillips CD coming from Kritzerland. I was there for about two and a half hours, then I went to the mail place where I picked up mail and one package. I then came home and began writing new pages, working for a little over two hours and doing about eight or nine new pages on top of the two that I’d done earlier. Then I couldn’t stop, so I did a little over fifteen pages in all, and that was a good day’s work. I’ll leave it to muse Margaret to tell me if I’m dwelling too much on certain events – doing cuts are easy in this book. I then made a little snack and ate it whilst sitting on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched season one, episode one of The Sopranos, which I just picked up on Blu and Ray. I haven’t seen the first season since I watched the DVD, which has been about six years now, I think. The premiere episode is even better now than it was then. It’s extraordinary seeing the seeds of the show, and seeing how young everyone looked back in 1999. Carmela says how great laserdiscs are, which shows you how fast up-to-date references can change. Gandolfini is brilliant, but everyone is great, right down to the smallest roles. It’s shocking looking at the two kids, neither of whom ended up looking anything like they look in the first season. In fact, I think the gal who plays Meadow had something done to her nose – something sure changed. And Edie Falco looks so great pre-facial surgery. The writing and direction are top-notch and I’m really going to enjoy revisiting this show. The transfer is a little disappointing, but I’m hoping they get better as the season goes along. It’s fine, but I’d guess they haven’t really upgraded the transfers used for the DVDs.

After that, I went back and smoothed out what I’d written earlier, and then just relaxed. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I feel this section is starting to get some shmootz in it.

Today, I have a work session at eleven, and then I may have a spot of lunch, and then I’ll write, do some errands and whatnot, and then I’m supping and having a visit with someone I haven’t seen in quite some time and I’m quite looking forward to it.

Tomorrow I will, of course, write, and I have to attach Kritzerland labels to boxes, and I realized I wouldn’t have enough boxes to do the next shipping, so I ordered more and those will arrive on Monday. I have no dinner plans so I’ll probably bring something in. We shall see.

Sunday will be mostly writing, and I’ll print out about eighty new pages for muse Margaret to peruse. Next week will be very busy with preparing packages for shipment, prepping our next release, shipping, writing, and a couple of meetings.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, really try and do a jog, I must have a work session, I must write, and then I must sup. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, various upcoming Kritzerland projects in various stages of completion. DVD, bedroom player, All That Jazz, Blu-Ray, The Sopranos. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and let’s make sure that none of them have shmootz.
