THE TRIP

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I’ll have to keep these here notes short and sweet and also sweet and short because as I was coming home from last night’s dinner partay I took a header and my hand hit the pavement way too hard and is very sore, as is my arm. No serious damage, but just tenderness and soreness which is two nesses too many. So, it’s a little difficult to type right now. I’m hoping that in the morning it will feel a little better and not worse – we shall see. Coming out of Dee Dee and Alan’s home environment there is a long walkway that leads to some steps down the street level. There is no light whatsoever there – it’s absolutely pitch black, you can’t seen anything. I found the steps and went down them very carefully. I turned to the left, went about three steps and tripped, because the sidewalk there is cracked and one side of it is pitched much higher than the other and again it is pitch black there so you can’t even see the sidewalk. I just totally lost my footing and went crashing to the ground. I fell on my side and my hand hit the pavement hard, as I think I was trying to break the fall. I got right up and got my bearings, but my hand was already filled with pain. I felt all the bones and nothing hurt when I pressed against my palm or my thumb (which is where my hand hit), so I didn’t think I’d broken anything – maybe I sprained something but that’s it. I walked home. There’s a teeny-tiny little abrasion on the thumb – no blood or anything. I’m going to take a couple of aspirin and maybe ice that part of my hand.

Prior to the fall, I’d had a slightly frustrating day in that every time I started to get on a roll with writing, something interrupted me. I revised what I’d written yesterday, wrote a new page, then printed the entire 101 pages and took the to Staples to get copied. I then drove to muse Margaret’s and gave them to her. After that, I came home ready to write, only to find out I’d forgotten that there was a partay to attend not too far from here. So, I had to shave and shower and look presentable. I then managed to do another half-page, then toddled off to the partay. It was a very nice affair, and I saw several people from the film music message board, and our very own Mr. Nick Redman and Miss Julie Kirgo. I stayed for about ninety minutes then came home. I wrote about four pages, then it was time to toddle off to the dinner partay.

The dinner partay was a lovelier than lovely affair. In attendance were hosts Dee Dee and Alan, dog Casey, neighbors Tony Slide and Bob Gitt, former dear reader Panni (she’s become close friends with Dee Dee) and a very nice woman named Hermine. The food was, as always, stellar, as was the company and conversation. Tony has several new books coming out, including one about fan magazines and one about director Frank Lloyd. There’s an interview with Tony at altfg.com – just search “Anthony Slide.” I’m especially looking forward to the book on the history of fan magazines.

Dinner was comprised of salad, rolls, some sort of pork thing, a red cabbage and prune thing, and some other stuff that was all quite yummilicious. For dessert, Dee Dee made some sort of lemon torte with meringue and lady fingers and it was very faboo.

After dinner, I came home and wrote another couple of pages for a total of eight, which was fine, but from now on I am not letting anything interrupt me when I’m in the heat of writing. Muse Margaret had left me a message saying she’d had a great time reading the latest, but we’ll talk this morning so I can get specifics.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below whilst I try to avoid taking another trip like I took last night.

Today, I shall damn well write and not be disturbed, other than to do a few errands and whatnot, announce our new CD, have a lunch at noon, and hopefully pick up some packages. I will not be deterred, oh, no, I will not be deterred.

The rest of the week will be filled with writing, printing out orders (hopefully lots of them), prepping our next release, writing, meetings, meals, and writing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, damn well write and hopefully write damn well, do errands and whatnot, have a noon lunch, and pick up packages. Today’s topic of discussion: I rarely eat pork or lamb or veal – so, what are your all-time favorite pork or lamb or veal dishes. Do you make them, do you eat them at restaurants, and what are your recommendations? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and let us all try not to take the kind of trip I took last evening.
