UBER

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, my hand is on the mend. Yes, Virginia, my hand is on the mend. Thankfully, it was much better when I woke up this morning, and other than an occasional twinge of pain, it’s been fine all day and night. An Occasional Twinge – that’s the title of my next novel. Actually, I was very surprised that my side isn’t really sore at all – the only thing that’s slightly sore is my upper right arm and shoulder and that’s not too bad. I’m quite tired as I write these here notes because I was up bright and early and also early and bright at six in the morning, at which time we officially announced the new Kritzerland CD release. I must say it was met with much excitement and resulted in lots of orders and, in fact, I’ll predict that it will be the fastest sellout we’ve had in months – it’s probably going to be gone by noon today. I was actually quite nervous about doing this release and had it on hold for a month or so – I just wasn’t sure how many sales we’d have given that it’s already been out once on CD, albeit in a not very good way. But the orders came in steadily all day and night and my few dealers ordered nice numbers. In fact, I’d say this is the biggest seller we’ve had in at least six months in terms of Kritzerland sales. One thing I did that helped get us more orders at the site was I joined three Mad World fan groups on Facebook and posted the information there. So, that was a very nice start to the day. I cleaned up what I’d written yesterday, including having to move one thing a few pages later as I had the chronology slightly screwy. I wrote about three pages, and then had to toddle off to a lunch at the Studio Café, where my lunch partner and I split an order of wings, and I had one of their good scrambles with rye toast. It was a nice lunch, and then I picked up a couple of packages, after which I came home and got some good writing done, about seven pages on top of the three I’d done. I then gave my notes on the latest long musical revisions – I really had to be strong about a few things, but it’s all getting done so that’s good. I then finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I finally was in the mood to watch a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled 8 ½, a film of Fellini. First of all, I really love the movie – no matter how many times I see it and despite a huge number of filmmakers who have ripped off the film wholesale, it never fails to astonish me with its visuals and move me with its themes. The ending, for me, is one of the greatest in all of cinema. Everything about the film is of a piece – the performances, the script, the direction, the camerawork, and the great score of Nino Rota. After having read many raves for the Blu-Ray transfer, I was slightly disappointed by it. Yes, it’s got good contrast and at times it’s quite sharp and detailed, but my gut feeling is that this hi-def transfer was created for the previous DVD release. I could be completely wrong, of course, but then I’m rarely bowled over by Criterion’s Blu-Rays. It’s perfectly fine, but after what I’d read I was expecting brilliance and, for me, it’s not that.

After the movie, I wrote two more pages, and that was that, writing-wise. A good day because I was actually able to write without any interruptions. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I am uber tired and need my uber beauty sleep.

Today, Mr. Cason Murphy will be coming by to attend to a few things, and other than that I have nothing planned but to write. I know the co-author of the long musical thinks we’ll be spending a lot of time on the phone going over his fixes and then setting a schedule, but other than maybe ten minutes for the fixes, that will be it. I’m sure I’ll eat something amusing at some point and perhaps watch a motion picture or three.

Tomorrow and the rest of the week will include more writing, at least two meetings, and perhaps a visit with someone I haven’t seen for quite some time. We shall see. The weekend should be free unless there’s something going on I don’t know about.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, attend to things with Cason Murphy, write, eat, write, write, and then watch a motion picture. Today’s topic of discussion: We’ve done it before, but I’m on something of a trying things I haven’t tried before – so what are your favorite vegetable dishes – I’d like some recipes and things to try, especially sautéed things, which are my favorites. For example, I used to by all sorts of different kinds of squash and I’d sauté in butter and onions and I just loved that. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I haul my uber butt cheeks to the bedroom environment.
