UP TO SNUFF

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is quite late and I am quite tired and it’s been quite a day and so I quite must write these here notes in a hurry and if they’re not up to snuff then you can say enough. Sometimes it’s tough to be up to snuff and one must say enough even though that’s rough and perhaps off the cuff but when one is sitting on one’s duff and singing Puff, The Magic Dragon, then all this becomes merely fluff – of course, I don’t mean to be gruff but that’s what happens when one writes the notes in the buff – there’s simply nothing you can bluff and if I don’t stop this soon I shall storm off in a huff. Well, that was that. And this is this. Yesterday was yesterday and it was quite a day. I got up early and did a few things around the home environment and then Mr. Cason Murphy came by and filled out endless customs forms. We then put postage on all those packages and a couple of big overseas packages and then we took the whole kit and caboodle over to the postal office and got everything on its merry way overseas. We then grabbed a bite to eat at the Studio CafĂ©, after which Cason left and I did some errands and whatnot, including picking up some photos I had printed up from 1979 and my favorite photo shoot ever. So, I now have a perfect copy for the photo we’re going to use on the cover (not sure how it’s going to be used, design-wise, but it will figure prominently). I then heard from muse Margaret, who finished reading the book for flow and she was very happy with everything save for the problematic last chapter. We discussed it, and finally figured out exactly what was still bothering her. I then redid it for the fifth time, this time adding specifically what she felt was missing. The content and structure were all fine with her, it was the personality that was missing, and that’s what I added, in just some additional sentences and a couple of paragraphs. I also cut two paragraphs that I felt were weighing things down. Then I called her and read her the chapter from start to finish and she thought all the little changes did the trick – they were all warm and funny and positive and they informed everything else in the chapter. So, it’s taken a while to get there, but now she’s happy and if she’s happy, I’m happy.

By the time I was finished, it was time to mosey on over to Theatre 40 in the Hills of Beverly to see a play by the Kritzerland designer, Doug Haverty. I thought the play was quite good, but a couple of the performances were way too over the top for my taste and the director should have toned them down. The two young men were very good. After the show, we went to some Eyetalian gelato jernt where I had a macaroon. I then came home and here I am writing Ye Olde Notes.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below whilst we hope that the next section will be up to snuff.

Today, I shall print out two count them two copies of the book, one for me, and one for one of my merry proofers. After that, I shall deliver a big box o’ CDs to a local dealer and after that the day and evening are mine all mine.

Tomorrow, I have some stuff to do, but Tuesday starts the busier than busy portion of the week, with casting sessions through Thursday and our private informal reading on Friday evening. I’m happy to say that Mr. Barry Pearl has joined our merry troupe, long musical-wise. It’s a role that has heretofore been one scene with no character at all. It’s one of the things I’ve been strongest about and in this new draft I finally got what I’ve been asking for and the character now appears in several scenes and actually has a character and a point and it’s a lot of fun.

Over the weekend, I’m going to try and get together with Mr. Grant Geissman to begin the design of the cover and to talk about the design and layout of the book, which I think we’re going to have a lot of fun with.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the box-step, for today is the birthday of dear reader Matthew. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to dear reader Matthew. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO DEAR READER MATTHEW!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, print out two copies of the book, deliver CDs, eat something amusing, and then relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, and let’s keep them up to snuff.
