AN ANCIENT ARTIFACT FROM A DIFFERENT ERA

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I was looking through the hall closet yesterday and I came upon an ancient artifact of a different era – a whole box of unused floppy discs. Now, first of all, these floppy discs are not floppy – they’re hard. I also came upon some zip discs. Now, first of all, these zip discs are not zipped. I remember a time when one had to back up all important documents to a floppy disc. Every computer had a little floppy disc slot. And suddenly, just like that, there was no more floppy disc slot and floppy discs were so yesterday. So, I ended up with a whole box of gaily-colored floppy discs, all unused. So, is there a market for unused gaily-colored floppy discs? Can I put them on eBay and sell them as an authentic artifact of a different era? Perhaps I’ll simply move them from the hall closet to my collectible showcase. I do believe there was once a time when floppy discs were actually floppy, but I don’t have any floppy floppy discs. All right, I do believe I have just spent an entire paragraph discussing an ancient artifact of a different era, the floppy disc and the zip disc. I also have a zip disc drive so I can drive my zip discs anywhere, like Azusa or Altadena. Yesterday is now an ancient artifact of a different era. I was awakened by the ringing of a telephonic device at six in the morning – it was my publisher, who I’m sure forgot about the little time difference. I did not take the call and fell back asleep until the ringing of the telephonic device awoke me at eight-twenty. I then got up, answered e-mails and then did some errands and whatnot. After that, I had a three hour work session and whilst that was going on the alarm people were here fixing the alarm system. The work session went well, lots of changes are coming in the next two weeks and we’ll see where we are. The alarm system now works and as soon as they let me know the secret password should the alarm actually go off, then I’ll start using it. One must know the secret password so one can call in and give it to the alarm company and stop the police from coming, should the alarm be triggered accidentally. I was shown how it all works, they programmed in a password of my choosing to set the alarm, and as soon as I get the other info, then alarms will be set.

After all that, I was starving, so I went and picked up a couple of packages and then supped at the Studio Café, where I had wings and a barbecue chicken sandwich and no fries. I also did a little book proofing whilst there. Then I came home, did a few other things that needed doing, and then I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Stargate. I don’t think I’d ever seen it before. I found it to be very silly but sort of enjoyable. Normally I hate these sorts of films, but this one zipped right along and was okay. The transfer looked fine and the sound was robust. I also finished watching the first feature film of Georges Franju, Head Against the Wall. It’s not quite as good as his classic Eyes Without A Face (made the following year) or Judex, but it’s a compelling film and a pretty depressing one. Franju’s favorite leading lady, Edith Scob, has one shot in this film and she truly is an extraordinarily beautiful woman – incandescent, with the most incredible eyes. The region 2 DVD looks very good.

After my viewing, I listened to a CDR of something that may become a potential Kritzerland project, although it would require a huge amount of aural cleanup work – but I do love the music, so we’ll see what’s what. Also, next week I’m making a little deal for a surprise Kritzerland project that I think will delight the cult movie enthusiasts among us.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because this entire section is starting to feel like an ancient artifact from a different era.

Today, I have some errands and whatnot to attend to in the morning, then I have a lunch meeting – must try to figure out somewhere fun to go. After that, the day is mine all mine. I’m hoping I have some packages to pick up, and I do have to package up some recent orders, and I do have to Fed Ex something to my mastering engineer and I do have to order more shipping boxes for shipping. Married To It CDs will be here next Tuesday, so we have to address and postage this weekend.

Tomorrow, I have an appointment with our very own Teddy, and after I shall look perfectly coifed because right now my hair is most unseemly and quite unwieldy. I have something happening on Friday but can’t really remember what it is.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do errands and whatnot, have a lunch meeting, pick up packages, ship packages, Fed Ex a package and order boxes, not to mention relax and watch a motion picture or three. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, as we reminisce about the floppy disc and the zip disc, ancient artifacts from a different era.
