OUT OF PITH

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we have survived our first rehearsal and survived it quite handily. We have a wonderful company of players who understand the speed at which we must move. But even though this was a really difficult first rehearsal in terms of the amount of stuff we were doing, I never felt rushed. We just moved right along and even ran each scene twice. Since the blocking days are not about acting, I gave very few acting notes this evening – in fact, I basically said one word to one actor just to get him in the right place and he’s such a good actor the one word was all it took. I was told the music rehearsal in the other room went well, too. Prior to rehearsal, I had a very nice day. I got a great night’s sleep, got up, did my usual routine, and then did a two-mile jog, after which I went and did some errands and whatnot and picked up some mail and a package at the mail place. I then did some paper blocking, then got ready. At four-forty, my assistant arrived and we drove down to Hollywood. The traffic on Highland was already horrendous because of the McCartney concert, with people trying to snag whatever far-away parking spaces they could find. We got to our rehearsal space a little after five, parked, and then walked over to the Pig ‘n’ Whistle to sup.

I was saddened to find that there great mac and cheese was no longer on the menu, so I just had my chicken Caesar salad, which was small but good. We managed to do a lot more paper blocking after we ate. Then we walked back to the rehearsal space, said hello to everyone, and then the evening began with a short meet and greet. The Equity deputy was chosen, and then we began.

After rehearsal, I took the easiest route home, taking Laurel Canyon rather than even thinking about trying to deal with the Bowl traffic. We got back very quickly. This is the first night since buying my motor car that I’m leaving it parked outside. From six to six tomorrow they are doing some sort of street work, some kind of sealing thing. They were supposed to do it last year, but it rained. So, I couldn’t park in the garage because I wouldn’t be able to pull the car out until six at night and we’re leaving at four-thirty.

Well, I’d love to write another five pages of pithy pithiness and frothy frothiness, but the reality is that it’s time to post these here notes and I’m feeling that I’ve pitched enough.

Today, I will get up, do a two-mile jog, then our very own Mr. Nick Redman will be by for a visit, then I have some errands and whatnot to attend to, and then I’ll pick up mail and hopefully a package or three. Then at four-thirty the assistant and I will head to Hollywood, park, and then go eat somewhere fun and finish the paper blocking.

Tomorrow, we will be shipping a LOT of CDs out, and then our rehearsal is in the day. I’m thinking about Genghis Cohen after rehearsal, just because I haven’t been there in about three months.

Friday’s rehearsal is daytime to, as are our weekend rehearsals.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the polka, because today is the birthday of our very own errant and truant dear reader and mommy Ann. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own errant and truant dear reader and mommy Ann. On the count of three: A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN ERRANT AND TRUANT DEAR READER AND MOMMY ANN!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, have a visit, do some errands and whatnot, sup, and rehearse. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I try to get some pith back for right now I am out of pith.
