THE OSCAR WILD PARTY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is time for our Annual Oscar Bash right here at haineshisway.com. It is time for the partay of partays right here at haineshisway.com. Let others try to emulate, but they shall fail because this is the only place to be on Oscar night. Yes, we shall speak of the good, the bad, and the ugly. We will report on fashion faux pas, and bad hair and good hair and large hair and small hair. We shall post about winners and losers and speeches and hosts. And they will be the gayest and wittiest posts because we are the gayest and wittiest site on all the Internet. So, be there or be round and you won’t want to miss a single solitary minute of the merriment and mirth and laughter and legs.

Yesterday was a day I like to call Saturday. It was quite a rainy day so I mostly stayed in the home environment, venturing out only to pick up the long in coming package from Spain – at least the eBay seller was listed as being in Spain – the package came from France. And now I am the owner of an incredibly rare book at an incredibly cheap price because the seller didn’t list the book where anyone would actually see it. I saw it because I happened to search the author, Pierre Boulle. The book? The first edition (and I mean true first) of Planet Of The Apes, in French. I have lusted after this book for many years, but the cheapest decent copies always go for over $1,000 and frequently for as much as $3,000 (there is currently a copy on eBay for almost that much). Since I got it for about $100 I’d say that I got the deal of deals on this book, one I’ll make quite a bit of profit on should I ever decide to sell. I also own the equally rare UK edition (called Monkey Planet) – that edition was the first in English, followed by the US edition. Prior to that, I’d spent over an hour on the phone with muse Margaret going over the proposed fixes from copy editor one. Many of them were fine with her, but some definitely weren’t and we didn’t make those changes, all of which she felt hurt my writing style and tone. In the afternoon, I got copy editor two’s changes – really not many at all. She caught some misspellings that everyone else had missed, and a few punctuation things, and she had some questions about show business lingo she was worried outsiders might not get, so I’m going to run those few things by muse Margaret, hopefully this morning. I then supped with a friend, after which I came home and sat on my couch like so much fish.
Last night, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled District 9. I knew nothing of the film at all – in fact, I thought it was an animated movie. I also had no idea it was nominated for Best Picture. And I have to say it’s a well-deserved nomination. In fact, other than a few over-the-top violent bits, I really enjoyed the movie a lot. It’s a wonderfully done sci-fi tale, with very good direction and pace, and I found it ultimately very affecting. It’s miles above the tripe that has called itself sci-fi over the last decade. Part of what works so well is that the film has no recognizable actors in it – just good, solid actors who give good, solid performances. The CGI is quite excellent and the film looks great, which is amazing given its $30 million budget. The Blu and Ray is reference quality in both sound and image and image and sound.

After that, I put labels on packages so that we’re already to go in terms of addressing packages this morning. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get my beauty sleep so that I’m ready for our Oscar Wild Party.

Today, Mr. Cason Murphy and I will be addressing packages and putting postage on them. Then I shall eat something reasonable and try to finish my proofing of the book. I’ll then have to run some of my proposed fixes by muse Margaret – I’ve just found little things, some of which have been caught by others. Otherwise, it’s just a few little smoothing out things.

And then it will be time for our Annual Oscar Bash and I, for one, cannot wait. It will be fun to see if we break any posting records tomorrow. It’s really hard to know as we’ve had an infestation of errant and truant behavior of late. But, let’s hope for the best and the one thing we know is that it will be a ton of fun and a fun of ton.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, address packages, put postage on packages, try to finish proofing the book and begin putting in the rest of the changes, and then attend an Oscar Bash. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your choices for this evening’s Oscars? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and let’s make it the most fun night on all the Internet at our Oscar Wild Party.
