AFTER MIDNIGHT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I have had another very long day, hence I am tired, hence I shall write these here notes in a hurry. It’s almost midnight and as you all now after midnight we’re gonna let it all hang out. And that’s not a pretty sight, that much I can tell you. Even before midnight it’s not that pretty a sight, but after midnight it’s really not something you ever need to see. So, before I let it all hang out, I’d better just get through these here notes in short order or, conversely, in long order. Yesterday, as noted above, was another very long day. I got up early, finished writing the Jason Graae questions, did some other stuff, and then headed over to LACC for our event. It was a very disappointing turnout, mostly because not one single student came. I’m thinking that maybe someone forgot a simple little thing like actually mentioning the event. Whatever it was, it’s not ever going to happen again, or I simply will stop doing the events. I work really hard to get incredible people and I cannot have them come down for fifteen people. That said, the fifteen people were wonderful and Jason was his usual hilarious, honest, and wonderful self. In fact, the two hours flew by and I didn’t even get all my questions in. He sang two songs, and because we know and like each other so well, the camaraderie was just so much fun and we laughed and laughed and just when we thought we could laugh no more, we laughed again.

After that, I went directly to the Hollywood Show. It didn’t seem all that crowded to me, but the whole thing felt even more circus-like than ever and I just don’t like the whole vibe anymore. I did see some friends and some dealer friends, and it was a good group of celebs, but there are now too many of them, they have them tucked away in places where it’s just impossible to find them and the fun and slightly weird vibe that the show used to have is just gone and it’s kind of crass now. I barely lasted forty minutes, not exactly value for money at the twenty dollar admission. I’m thinking I may be done with this show now, unless I actually do a signing there, but they’d have to assure me of where I’m sitting and I’ll have to like it.

After that, I came home, listened to all the other tracks for our new master, save for one that was still being worked on. Hopefully that’s up by now and he can then get to work on the bonus book CD so that both can be overnighted on Monday.

After that, I was time to toddle over to the Gardenia to see Andrea Marcovicci’s new show, Blue Champagne. I had the salmon (with rice and green beans), which was fine. The new show is basically a little history lesson of torch songs and Andrea, as usual, does very witty and clever patter and the show moves along at a steady clip and one is treated to a whole slew of great torch songs, both well-known and really obscure, with special focus on Helen Morgan, Libby Holman, and Ruth Etting. Shelly Markham provided the music and was his always-wonderful self. I hung around for a little while after, but I didn’t really know anyone, which is very unusual for the Gardenia.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because it is now after midnight and I am officially letting it all hang out. Be afraid, be very afraid.

Today is mine all mine. I have some work to do, our very own Mr. Nick Redman is stopping by for a brief visit, and then I have to deliver CDs to a local dealer, but other than that I’m not doing much of anything. And I’m jiggy with that, I’m down with that. I may even let it all hang out.

Tomorrow, I know there’s a bunch of stuff to be done but at this point in time I cannot remember what any of it is. I do know I have several lunches this week, some meetings, and I have to quickly prepare our next Kritzerland release, which will be a week from now.

I also intend to finish the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, and catch up on other Blu and Rays that have been sitting here for far too long.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a little work, visit with Nick Redman, deliver CDs, and then relax and watch a motion picture or three. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we let it all hang out, after midnight or before.
