MOST ENJOYABLE SYNDROME

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, thus far this has been a most enjoyable week. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, this has been a most enjoyable week for most enjoyable reasons. I don’t really remember what the reasons are, but each day has been most enjoyable, even though they’ve been quite busy. This is known as the Most Enjoyable Syndrome, which is much better than Most Annoying Syndrome or Most Vomit On The Ground Syndrome. No, if one must have a syndrome then Most Enjoyable is the way to go. Yesterday, for example, was most enjoyable. I awoke at eight after a very peculiar dream, refused to get up, and slept for another ninety minutes. That was most enjoyable. I proofed the booklet and inlay card of our upcoming release, noted the corrections and sent them off. The packaging on this title is a good deal of fun. I then found out that the book CDs will be here Tuesday morning, so we’ll prep all the packages so they can go out first thing Tuesday. Then I toddled off to visit Mystery and Imagination Books in the Dale of Glen. They open at noon. Only they were closed because they now open at noon-thirty. So, I went across the street to Panera and had a couple of muffin tops. By the time I finished, Mystery and Imagination was open. I gave them a copy of the new book and they loved the look of it. We booked a signing for May 15. As soon as I left there I realized I’d had a senior moment because May 15 is the Andrea Marcovicci event at LACC. So, I’ll call them tomorrow and re-book for May 23rd, which is better for me anyway. I then headed home, stopped at the mail place and got one big box and one small box, not necessarily in that order. Other than that, there was only one piece of mail mail. All of this, by the way (BTW, in Internet lingo) was most enjoyable. Then I came home, did some work on the computer, and then it was time for a late afternoon meal and meeting at Hugo’s. The meeting part went fine and lots of interesting things were discussed. But the best part was that I actually tried something new on the menu – something called Pasta Victor, and, I’m afraid, I shall now become hooked on it. Pasta Victor is pasta with chicken (not a lot), chilis, corn, and seasonings, in a light chipotle cream sauce that was out of this world. I had a small Caesar with it, but in future I will do without the salad when ordering this yummilicious dish. After the meeting, I came home, did some more work on the computer, wrote a blurb for Druxy’s book, and then finally sat on my couch like so much fish.
Last night, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Prince Valiant, starring Mr. Robert Wagner (and his pageboy), James Mason, Janet Leigh, Debra Paget, and many others. I loved this movie as a wee sprig of a twig of a tad of a lad of a youth and it’s still a grand Saturday matinee adventure yarn. Helping things immeasurably is the sublime score by Franz Waxman. Not helping things immeasurably is the transfer on this import from the UK (it’s all-region and will play anywhere). Certainly it does not look like it’s from an actual HD source – yes, it’s a little better than the DVD, but the whole thing is way too soft (the credits are totally out of focus in the center), the color is sometimes fine, sometimes not (sometimes even within the same scene), and the film moves around a lot in the telecine gate. Perhaps someday, Fox will get around to doing a brand new transfer. Until then, if you like the film, it’s probably worth getting just for the fun of watching it – but as a Blu-Ray, it’s pretty poor.

After the movie, I just nosed around the Internet, took a nice, hot shower, and then relaxed. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I want to get these here notes posted on time and then get my beauty sleep, because tomorrow there is a lot to do, and hopefully it will all fall into the Most Enjoyable Syndrome.

Today, I have several things to do in the morning, including having a very important conversation regarding my book. After that, I have a lunch meeting (not sure where yet), and then I have errands and whatnot to attend to and a possible visit in the afternoon. The evening is mine all mine. Tomorrow, I have a breakfast meeting and a lunch meeting, but I’m going to try and push the lunch to the late afternoon and not have it be a meal.

Saturday is pretty free, save for getting everything prepared for our Monday announcement, and then Sunday we’ll be addressing a whole slew of packages and putting postage on them – for both the Legend of the Lost CDs, and the book (plus bonus CD). The following week is quite busy, and then it’s off to Olympia, Washington, to see our very own George in The Brain From Planet X, do an audience talkback with co-writer David Wechter, and hopefully see some hainsies/kimlets for food after the show.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a very important conversation, have a lunch meeting, do errands and whatnot, and then relax and watch a motion picture or two. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your all-time favorite rousing Saturday matinee adventure yarn films? And your favorite adventure yarn TV shows? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, for if we do then we will have Most Enjoyable Syndrome right here at haineshisway.com.
