THE OPENING SENTENCE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this is yet another of those times when I have done about twenty opening sentences, none of which were to my liking. I found them banal and boring and annoying, rather like the opening sentence I just wrote. I hate when that happens. I like when I come up with a high-flying adored opening sentence, like, Well, dear readers, it is Monday. Now THAT is an opening sentence. Why didn’t I think of THAT? In any case, I am now in the body of the notes. Have you ever been in the body of the notes and if so, how did the body of the notes feel about you just barging into its body like that? You know, if anyone has a clew as to what the HELL I’m going on about, don’t tell me because it will frighten me and I might run out in the street naked whilst eating a Fruity Snack. In any case, I had a pretty okay yesterday. I did get a good night’s sleep, then answered some e-mails, and then delivered a big box o’ CDs to a local dealer. After that, I came back home and was visited upon by our very own Mr. Nick Redman. We went to the Studio Café for some foodstuffs, and we had a lovelier than lovely conversation about oh so many things. After that, I came back home, did a little work on the computer, and then finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Sherlock Holmes, starring Mr. Robert Downey, Jr. and Mr. Jude Law. I liked it a little better than I thought I would, but that’s not saying much. The fact is, an okay script was done in by the awful direction of Mr. Guy Ritchie – direction filled with all that “now” crap I can’t stand. Whenever he’d just let a scene play, it was fine and one went with it. Then he’d start in with his clichéd bag o’ tricks and I just zoned out. The actors were fine. The score was also a huge problem for me, with one inept scoring choice after another – I don’t know if we should blame a temp track assembled by the director, or if Mr. Hans Zimmer just came up with those ideas on his own, but boy were some of those choices terrible. The transfer was great, BUT – when will these idiots learn – the disc will not play well in either of my players – so maybe I don’t have the latest and greatest firmware upgrade and I’m sick of it. In one player, every time it hit a chapter stop it went back to the previous chapter. That’s just ridiculous. And on my newer player, every time it hit a chapter stop, the picture would stutter and in order to get it to play correctly, you’d have to rewind a little and then press play – again, ridiculous and until they fix this problem Blu-Ray will never catch on with the masses. Who wants to have to do these firmware upgrades? Frankly, I’ve tried to set up both players to use my wireless connection, but whatever I’m doing isn’t working, which means I’d have to put whatever the upgrade is on a little drive thing and then try to figure out how to plug that in and then do it – but I don’t know where to look and I’m bored by it all. You pay money, you want the damn thing to just work – you shouldn’t have to jump through all these hoops. There, I’ve said it and I’m glad.

After the movie, I spent some time giving book corrections to the person I’m helping with their book, and after that I just played online.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because frankly this whole section is beginning to feel like the opening sentence – hopefully the next section will bring forth riches and fruits and nuts and rubies and diamonds and bon mots and bon bons and bon appetite.

Today, I shall get up, have several telephonic conversations that I need to have, including one about Kindle and my books (there was a screwup and it’s being fixed today, but I want a definite ETA as to when they’ll show up – it will be some time this week). I also have to approve the master for the bonus book CD, but I haven’t even gotten any of it to listen to yet – and both it and Legend Of The Lost must go to the pressing plant by the end of the day. We shall see. I also am doing some organizational work with a helper, stuff I’ve needed to do for a long time. I’m going to Costco for waters and Diet Cokes, and I’ll eat something fun at some point. Then I will finish giving corrections and that will be that until they show me the fixed thing just to make sure everything was caught. I also have to overnight the source material for the next Kritzerland release.

The rest of the week I have meetings, meals, and a ton of stuff to attend to, including writing the liner notes to our next release and prepping all of that.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the tango, because today is the birthday of dear reader Jennifer. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to dear reader Jennifer. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO DEAR READER JENNIFER!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, overnight a package, I must have a few telephonic conversations, I must organize, I must eat, and then I must watch a motion picture or two. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your all-time favorite Sherlock Holmes stories, films, and plays? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I now attempt to write a wonderful closing sentence. Oh, I guess that was it.
