EARTING

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am quite hungry whilst writing these here notes and so I am making some rice with sautéed onions and butter. That’s what happens when you haven’t eaten since twelve-thirty in the afternoon. In any case, here I sit, earting rice and typing these here notes. And when you are earting rice and typing these here notes there is the odd chance you’ll misspell eating and earting. Frankly, I like earting better than eating, but that’s another story. Not only am I earting rice and typing these here notes, but I am also needing to eart and write in a hurry because she of the Evil Eye will be here all too soon and I have a busy day and need my beauty sleep. So, yesterday was a wacky little day. I got up early and toddled over to West Hollywood to have my do done by the one and only Teddy. I gave Teddy a copy of my new book, in which he is mentioned lovingly. Next year is my fortieth anniversary of going to Teddy – I don’t know too many people who can make that claim – that they’ve had the same hair stylist for forty years. After he did my do, I toddled over to an LA landmark called Barney’s Beanery for a lunch meeting. I’d only ever been there once before and remembered virtually nothing about it. Well, I had a great bacon cheeseburger with a split fries and onion rings and it was really terrific. The meeting was fun and fancy-free. Afterwards, I headed back to the Valley, put a box o’ books in the motor car and drove them over to Mystery and Imagination Books. I then did some errands and whatnot and finally came home, where I had to deal with a little petty annoyance. It’s all fine now, no thanks to the ASS who’s trying to cause trouble, not only for me but for three other record labels as well. Happily, the people with whom he’s trying to cause trouble all hate him and know he’s an ASS. I relaxed a little and also heard from three people who were coming to the book signing and who now no longer are. I honestly don’t know WHAT it’s going to be like tomorrow, but I’m getting seriously weary of my “friends” – you know, the ones who expect me to come to everything they do but who NEVER EVER show up at my little signings. I clear the date, everyone is okay with it, and then one by one they tell me that this came up or that came up – it’s really disheartening, but whatever it will be it will be. Then I toddled over to Hollywood to see Mr. Jason Graae in a musical.

Last night, I saw Mr. Jason Graae in Mr. Michael John LaChiusa’s musical play entitled See What I Wanna See. I wasn’t really looking forward to going, but I did and am I GLAD I did. First of all, Daniel Henning’s production is wonderful – simple and to the point, beautifully lit and costumed, with a terrific band. And the show itself is terrific – certainly, for me, it’s LaChiusa’s most accessible work and I really liked the whole shape and tone of it. And one could not ask for a better cast. Jason was just great, as were Leslie Margharita (it turns out that she and Guy Haines had worked together years ago in a little show in which Mr. Haines did a guest shot – a show called The Grave White Way), Perry Ojeda (fantastic), Doug Carpenter, and Suzan Solomon. They should all win awards.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’m almost finished earting my rice and I need to hit the road to dreamland.

Today, I’ll be doing my book signing and hope that there will at least be a few people there – otherwise I’ll just have to eart the entire Parisian Cake by myself. After the signing, I’m hoping a couple of people will want to go eart something. Then I’m coming home, beginning our next release’s liner notes, and then watching a motion picture or three.

Tomorrow, I’m seeing Miss Alet Taylor in Nightmare Alley The Musical, then supping with her and Mr. Barry Pearl and his ever-lovin’ Cindy. Looking forward to it all. And then, of course, it’s the big Lost evening.

This week will be very busy – work sessions with David Wechter and the long musical team, several meetings, and prepping the next two Kritzerland releases.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a book signing, eart, and watch motion pictures. Today’s topic of discussion: Of today’s crop of composers and lyricists, who is your favorite and what is your favorite show of theirs? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I finish earting my rice and then hit the road to dreamland.
