THE BOOK SIGNING

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, what a long and lovely day it was yesterday. Long because I had an allergy attack at five-thirty in the morning and couldn’t get back to sleep, and lovely because once I got over the allergy attack (thanks to my handy-dandy allergy pill) it was quite the most lovely day. She of the Evil Eye arrived and I went and had poached eggs on toast and then did some errands and whatnot, including going to Gelson’s and picking up the Parisian Cake. After that, I came home, got ready, did a few things on the computer, and chose the three little sections that I thought would be good to read from. I then moseyed on over to Mystery and Imagination Books. We set the upstairs room the way we usually have it, and then it was just a waiting game to see if anyone was actually going to show up. Happily, it was a great crowd, over twenty-five people. There were a couple of no-shows – people who said they’d be there who just thought it was okay to not show up and not call to say they weren’t showing up. I would never do that, but that’s just me. In any case, there were wonderful people in attendance, including many friends and even some folks I didn’t know. I began by reading the three sections, one of which was a little longer than I’d intended. Still, I had a lot of fun reading – this one especially is interesting to read, because it’s totally my voice. So, there were several big laughs and everyone seemed interested. And I don’t know why it is, but every time I’d get to a sentence that involved my darling daughter I’d get choked up. After I finished reading, I answered questions – and there were some really good ones. Then it was time for cake and I signed books (we sold quite a few, including a couple Adriana Hofstetter books) and chatted with people. The two hours flew by. I must say, when it was done I was completely exhausted. I got paid for the books sold and then I stopped at my mail place, got mail and no packages, and then came home. I answered e-mails and then made some rice with sautéed onions and butter. I also had a little craving for candy – since I rarely ever do actual candy, I had a Reese’s something or other and also a drumstick (ice cream). I figured I deserved a little treat. After that, I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled That’s Entertainment III. I’m not even bothering with the second film. I have to say, this set is truly pointless in terms of Blu-Ray – the quality of the clips is never much better than standard DVD (a few stand out – but they are the exception) and I should have just kept the DVD set. The third film isn’t put together very well but it does have the rare footage, and that’s really the only interest. Also, I hate the way the newly recorded music sounds – as if it was recorded in a tunnel somewhere. Still, it was nice to see Judy Garland doing Annie Get Your Gun.

I also watched a motion picture on DVD, which is going to be the next Kritzerland release – I wrote the track titles as I watched. It’s weird with some of these films in that the music is sometimes truncated, moved around, or not used at all, plus certain cues are repeated. All I can do is go in the movie order of the recording and figure out where what wasn’t used would have been used. I had fun naming these tracks, a couple of which I thought were pretty clever. I then relaxed, played on the computer, and that was the end of my lovelier than lovely day.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because, after all, I’ve been up since five-thirty yesterday morning and I can barely keep Ye Olde Eyelids open.

Today, I shall try to sleep late. Then I have to write liner notes, and then I’m seeing Nightmare Alley, The Musical featuring our very own Miss Alet Taylor. After the show we’ll be supping, and then I’ll be coming directly home to watch all the Lost stuff (not the stuff AFTER the final episode – that I don’t care about at all).

Tomorrow, we address packages (but not all packages because I forgot to order more boxes – we can do about a third of them), but we’ll also organize things, order supplies and all that jazz. Then I work with David Wechter in the afternoon via iChat.

Tuesday I have a lunch meeting at the West Hollywood Hugo’s, and the rest of the week is work sessions, meetings, and prepping our release announcement. I think I have a show or two to see, as well.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, sleep late, write liner notes, see a musical, sup, and then watch Lost. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I reflect on my lovelier than lovely signing whilst hitting the road to dreamland.
