MELON BALLS AND PINEAPPLE CHUNKS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it’s the weekend and I, for one, say hoo and ray. As most of you know, this was a rather wacky week given the ex-helper drama and getting our new release announced and doing all manner of things. So I, for one, say hoo and ray for the weekend. Of course, she of the Evil Eye will be here all too soon and therefore I cannot dawdle, Amaryllis, no, I must write like the wind and finish these here notes in record time or, at the very least, in CD time. Now, yesterday, that was a Gold Star day. I got up early, did my morning ablutions, did some work on the computer, printed out more orders, and amongst my e-mails was the material I needed to begin writing the liner notes for our next release. But first, I had to go to the Hills of Beverly to take care of a little business, then I came right back to the San Fernando Valley, did some stuff at home, then went to the mail place and got one piece of mail (but a good piece of mail), did some banking, went to Gelson’s to get certain ingredients and then came home. I then made three count them three low-fat gram, low-cal hot dogs (40 calories each, pretty amazing). I put them each on a bun (120 calories per bun), said buns having mustard on them. I added the fabulously fabulous Gold Star chili that dear reader Pogue had sent me, topped that with onions and a mound of shredded cheddar cheese (I posted photographic evidence of them in yesterday’s posts) and ate them all up. The little can of Gold Star has two helpings in it that add up to about 220 calories – I used only a little over half the can, so all in all I was hugely full and had under 1000 calories. Amazingly amazing. And boy were they good. Interestingly, you can’t eat this chili by itself – it’s runny and doesn’t taste good until you put it on the dog, add the onions, and especially the heaping mound of shredded cheddar cheese – then somehow it just becomes absolute perfection. For dessert I had me some melon balls and some pineapple chunks. I do love me some melon balls and pineapple chunks – they’re ever so refreshing. And that was basically my meal o’ the day. After that, I sat right down and spent a couple of hours writing the liner notes, which came out pretty well, I think. The packaging should be done by tomorrow and then the composer can approve it. I think the master will be up tomorrow, as well, and we’ll approve that. Then the only decision is whether we’ll announce on Monday morning or wait until Wednesday. We shall see. After that, I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled The Stepfather. I first saw it back when it came out and thought it a terrific film. Today it seems like a positive masterpiece – they simply don’t know how to make a movie like this anymore. The wonderful script is by Donald Westlake, and Joseph Ruben’s direction is just right and makes the film into something so much more than just a standard slice-and-dice film. The cast is perfect, starting with a very young Terry O’Quinn as the title character, Shelley Hack as his wife, and the gorgeous and wonderful Jill Schoelen as the daughter. I never tire of watching this film, especially when it looks as splendidly splendid as it does here – the transfer is virtually perfect in every way. Highly recommended by the likes of me.

After the movie, I listened to CDs and did some finessing of liner notes. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’m feeling quite tired and am still sated from all them hot dogs and melon balls and pineapple chunks.

Today, I shall enlist the aid of she of the Evil Eye so we can put the new bed skirt on the bed – we’ll rotate or flip the mattress while we’re at it. Then all I need are the new sheets. After that, I have a lunch meeting in the Dale of Glen, with the former composer and lyricist of the long musical. We have many things to discuss. I also have a few errands and whatnot to attend to and am hoping a package or three will be at the mail place.

Tomorrow, I have a ton of stuff to do, and also I have to put over 500 labels on over 500 boxes. I doubt I’ll finish that task before we start addressing on Monday, but I’ll try to.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, put a bed skirt on the bed, do errands and whatnot, have a lunch meeting, and then watch a couple of motion pictures on Blu and Ray. Today’s topic of discussion: Where have you had the best hot dogs you’ve ever had. Why were they so good? How did you have them? And what is the most exotic hot dog you’ve ever had? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I ponder melon balls and pineapple chunks.
