THE CALL OF THE NEW BEDDING

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, what a weird and wacky day I had yesterday. Good weird and wacky, not bad weird and wacky. In fact, as the old flop musical said, I Had A Ball. It didn’t really start out to be much of a day. I did some work on the computer, talked to the mastering guy, answered e-mails, tried out my new telephonic equipment, programmed in phone numbers and all that sort of thing. Then I returned the extra handset to Staples and bought some printer ink with the credit. Then I went and had the motor car washed and waxed, after which I picked up several heavy boxes that were filled with boxes. Yes, they were boxes within boxes. I also had a couple of other packages, too. Then I went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and this is where the weird and wacky part began. I bought a new toothbrush holder and new Kleenex holder for my bathroom (the one I had was disgusting). And while I was there I looked at bedding – I hadn’t intended to but I’ve been hating my bedding for the last six months – it’s very dark and oppressive and the fabric of the down comforter cover is rough. And the down comforter has been shedding like crazy and was not in good shape. So, for the first time in six years, I bought new bedding. I found something I really liked right away – mostly beige and much lighter and airier than what I had. I bought shams, Euro shams, a skirt, sheets (which they were out of – they’ll be shipped to me shortly), a comforter cover, and a new down comforter. That was all very exciting. I got home and put all the new stuff on the bed. It wasn’t exactly easy getting the new down comforter into the new comforter cover, but I finally did, and boy did it all lighten the look of the room. I just love it. Then for the fourth time, I saw that I had a message on my cell phone. That was all fine and dandy and also dandy and fine save for the fact that my cell phone hadn’t rung on any of those occasions. I had that problem when I first got it. So, I called AT&T and we did the usual resets and tests – she got one call through, but five others didn’t get through. I kept going from four bars to two bars to no bars to “No Service” every few seconds. She transferred me to more of a tech person, and we did the same tests all to no avail. She then suggested the same thing that was suggested to me a week ago – get a new SIM card. I was talked out of that a week ago, being told it was problems with the 3G towers in my neighborhood. This time there was no talking me out of it – I got a new SIM card, the lady at the store called my phone and voila – it rang through. The tech lady from AT&T called me back when I got home, and she called the number twice and each call rang through. Apparently, bad SIM cards in new phones are frequently bad – I find that astonishing, but that’s what I was told. So, hopefully the phone will now operate as it should.

I then had some dinner with a friend here in the home environment – a nice, light salad (of which I ate a lot – but very low-cal), some rolls, and I had a half a chicken breast, all very yummilicious. Then we watched a few of my Ed Sullivan videos, then said friend left and I cleaned up and got in my sleeping shorts. At approximately eleven-twenty, the errant and truant helper showed up and left the errant and truant invoices on the doorstep and ran off into the night. I then wrote her a long e-mail, just getting everything off my chest that I wasn’t able to before. It wasn’t a nasty e-mail – just truthful and to the point, and I’m hoping she’ll learn something from it. So, that saga is done, and I never have to see this girl again, which is fine by me. I wish here well, but she’d better be very careful not to do this to others. I am not the only one she did it to (another director who championed her and helped her had a very similar story), and bad reps get born this way. She’s basically a nice gal and I hope she can pull it together and behave professionally from now on.

And that was my good weird and wacky day – oh, that and the fact I got a wonderfully helpful piece of mail totally out of the blue. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because the call of new bedding is strong and I cannot wait to get under my new down comforter and comforter cover (new sheets won’t be here for a few days).

Today, I shall drive into Beverly Hills, California for a brief visit (this I shall try to do by ten-thirty), and then I’m back in the Valley to do a lot of errands and whatnot, write liner notes, and approve our new master. Yesterday, I approved the cover for our new release – I really like it a lot. After that, the rest of the day is mine all mine and I already know what I’m eating because one of the packages that arrived yesterday contained six cans of Gold Star Chili, thanks to dear reader Pogue. So, I’m getting some low-cal hot dogs and buns, some shredded cheddar cheese, some onions, and I’m gonna have me some Gold Star Chili Dogs, baby. Be still my beating heart.

Tomorrow, I’m having luncheon with the former composer and lyricist of the long musical – I’m looking forward to it very much. And then I’ll be watching a few motion pictures on Blu and Ray. And I shall enlist the aid of she of the Evil Eye to help me put the new bed skirt on the bed – we have to remove the mattress to do so, so while we’re at it we’ll rotate the mattress or maybe even flip it over.

Sunday, I’m having a meeting and meal, and then on Monday it’s addressing a humungous number of boxes and putting postage on them – that may, in fact, take a couple of days, since I have quadruple the number of Kritzerland orders I normally do.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, drive to Beverly Hills, California for a brief visit, I must do errands and whatnot, I must write liner notes, I must approve our new master, and I must eat some Gold Star Chili Dogs, baby. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, the soundtracks to Cloak and Dagger, Outland, and about seven other movies. Blu and Ray – The Railway Children (region B), and the original version of The Stepfather, which I didn’t even know was out on Blu-Ray. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst the call of the new bedding gets louder and louder, like Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy.
