July 28, 2010:

ENERGIZED

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this week is flying by, like a gazelle doing Turkey Lurkey Time. Since I really need to get some sleep I think I shall write these here notes in a hurry, get them posted, and hit the road to dreamland. I must say that as exhausted as I am (mostly from lack of sleep) I am quite energized, and like the Energizer Bunny, I just keep on going. There are so many projects going on – the new releases, acts to direct, screenplay to write, Kritzerland at the Gardenia, planning the new LACCTAA events, and the other stuff I’ve been talking about. It’s all very exciting, so it’s no wonder I’m energized. Speaking of our first Kritzerland at the Gardenia show, we now have what I’m thinking will be our complete cast. I was going to have three gals, three guys, but I’m having trouble casting guy three and looking at my initial song list I realized we could conceivably do the show with three gals, two guys. If I hear back from the person I asked to be guy three, then we’ll have three guys and I’ll rethink the list a little. But for now, we have our complete cast, and in alphabetical order they are: David Engel, Jason Graae, Lesli Margherita, Pamela Myers, and Alet Taylor – a rather stellar group if you ask me. Our musical director will be Shelly Markham. Now I have to jump on casting our second show, which will be an evening of Unsung Musicals. Alet will be part of it, and I have one other person that I absolutely want – other than that, it’s wide open. Yesterday, I got up at eight-thirty after a very late night (I could not fall asleep). I printed out lots of orders, and put labels on boxes, after which the helper arrived. We dealt with the little publishing thing we had to deal with, then we addressed the packages and put postage on them. After that, we drove over to the Burbank Library, where I’ll be doing an author event next Tuesday, August 3 at 7:00. It’s a gorgeous library, and I was very pleased to see they had a really nice flyer done for me. I brought them a poster and some post cards, but they seem very on top of things. We then shipped some packages, then the helper went home and I went and had some poached eggs. After that, I did some errands and whatnot, had several really long telephonic conversations about the celebrity show ideas we have, did some research on cost, which provided very good news, and then I had to mosey on over to the Wood of Holly to do a radio interview with Joe Sutton of KGIL.

We taped the interview in a nice restaurant called BoHo or something – right next to the Arclight Theaters. Joe was a great interviewer and we did a full hour – he asked good questions and I was very at ease. The show will either air this Saturday or the next. I then went to Amoeba, where I had some very old credit to use up, which I did. Then I came home, had a little dinner, and finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled Crack in the World. To read posts by the loons at the Home Theatre Forum, you’d have thought this film was an all-time classic – the anticipation for this release was amazing, at least from the four people posting, which is, I think, how many DVDs of this title they’ll sell (I’m kidding, but I think they took seriously these few rabid fans, which is always a mistake). The film is average – Dana Andrews is always fun to watch, but the other actors are merely okay, the script is pretty trite, and the disaster effects are average, too. The film has a loud and okay score by Johnny Douglas. The transfer was quite nice, with excellent color.

After that, I listened to some music, got the good news about Pam Myers, and printed out a few more orders. And up until about fifteen minutes ago I was, yes, still energized. Now I’m ready to pass out and I’m slightly nauseous, too. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must rest my weary bones so that I can awaken energized.

Today, I have some errands and whatnot to do, and then I have a noon lunch meeting, and then the rest of the day might just be mine all mine. I do have to write my new scene for the screenplay, and I’m sure I’ll be working on the Lost in Boston Gardenia show and starting to send the singers mp3s of the songs. I’ll be gathering all the sheet music next week.

Tomorrow, we may or may not be shipping, although I think it’s going to be Friday. I also have another radio interview to do, and lots of errands and whatnot on Friday. I think the weekend is now booked but I can’t remember with what. I think someone needed to meet with me on Saturday and on Sunday I have to go to some housewarming thing. I am really feeling quite nauseous now and wonder if it’s from being so overtired.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, try to do a jog, do errands and whatnot, hope that a VERY overdue envelope arrives, have a lunch meeting, and then write and other stuff. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings so that I can be energized.
