WELCOME TO JULY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, welcome to July. Can you believe it? July – a month of Independence and fireworks and barbecue weenies and burgers and ribs and steaks, a month that will hopefully bring each and every one of us health, wealth, happiness, and creativity, and all things bright and beautiful. I’ve always liked July and I hope July has always liked me. Now that we’ve welcomed in July, I must finish these here notes in a hurry because I got hung up answering some e-mails and now the notes should be up and their not and I am typing as fast as I can whilst still trying to be coherent. So, let me just say that the last day of June was a doozey. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, the last day of June was a doozey. A doozey day is what it was. I got up early, CDs arrived on time at nine, Cason Murphy arrived on time at nine-thirty, and between the two of us we got everything packaged and ready to go in a little over ninety minutes, which, considering the number of packages, was pretty amazing. Having a focused, professional helper really makes all the difference. We drove the packages to the postal office and dropped them all off on the loading dock, then we went to Mo’s and had a very nice lunch. After that, we dropped off the bigger dealer order at the UPS Store, and I got one lonely little package. Then Cason went on his merry way, and I actually had to address, stamp and package about twenty-five orders that had come in while we were out. I’d say by the end of the weekend or early next week, Promises, Promises will be sold out. After that, I did a telephone interview with my pal Jon Burlingame – it was about the Promises release and I’m told it may appear in tomorrow’s Variety – if not, maybe a slightly later issue. I also got the very good news that I’ll be doing a book signing at the Burbank Library on August 10 (I think that’s the date – waiting for final confirmation) and a telephone interview on KFWB (I think) in the next couple of weeks. So, at least we’ll get the word out a little, book-wise. The other thing that happened was a friend had made the suggestion that we put an ad on Craig’s List for a helper. That happened on Tuesday night and by morning we’d had over 270 responses. We chose about ten of the best-sounding ones and we’re meeting them on Friday – so I’ll definitely have a helper when the Stu Phillips CDs ship on Tuesday. I then went and had a little snack for dinner, then came home and finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I continued watching a motion picture on the DVR entitled The Mississippi Mermaid, a French film from France directed by Francois Truffaut (from a novel by William Irish aka Cornell Woolrich), and starring Miss Catherine Deneuve and Mr. Jean-Paul Belmondo. I’ve always like this film and I really enjoy watching it whenever I have a chance. The hi-def transfer is nice but the color is a tiny bit pale. The score by Antoine Duhamel is superb.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because it’s July and I must start off the new month by getting my beauty sleep.

Today, I have a business meeting at eight-thirty this morning (hence the need to get these here notes posted asap), then another meeting at noon, once again at Mo’s, where I will not be having the Chinese chicken salad. I will have a few more orders to ship today, and I really must buckle down Winsocki and write the liner notes. I’m also picking up the tapes for the next Kritzerland release – I’m hoping there’s enough music for a CD – at least thirty-something – we shall see. I also will do some errands and whatnot and then relax.

Tomorrow, I only have a handful of things to do, and once they’re done I will have the long weekend to do as I please, save for a couple of business things on Saturday and a 4th of July partay on Sunday, and then our new release announcement on Monday (earlier for you dear readers).

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have an eight-thirty meeting, a noon meeting, ship a few packages, write, and pick up some tapes. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, various and sundried upcoming projects. Blu and Ray, The Leopard. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we hope for a July filled with health, wealth, happiness, and creativity, and all things bright and beautiful.

Addendum, with an emphasis on the Um – it’s not Friday, it’s Thursday. Why on earth did I say it was Friday when it’s Thursday? When it’s Thursday it’s not Friday and when it’s Friday it’s not Thursday – that is The Way it Is. All right, I was in a hurry and tired and hence it is now Friday when it’s really Thursday. Well, that makes both days much more special, if you ask me, which you did, I think. In any case, hold the Friday topic like mayo, and today’s topic will be: It’s Thursday – why would a sane human being say it was Friday?
