July 5, 2010:

WHY I OUGHTA…

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, the fireworks are done and it was a perfectly pleasant 4th of July. I hope all our dear readers and lurkers had a safe and fun 4th. Do you want to hear something astonishing? Then I’ll tell you something astonishing. I received a private message that some site was offering a free and quite illegal download of my CD 2 of Promises, Promises. The chutzpah of these people is unbelievable. But, that’s the world we live in, isn’t it? Everyone is entitled to everything. Needless to say, they have a little button that you click to “report abuse” – the site says they take that very seriously, so we’ll see just how seriously they take it. I expect it to be off the site today and if it’s not then they’re simply going to hear from the Metro Goldwyn Mayer Music Inc. lawyers, and if they do they may not have a site left. I told them my advance notice was being done as a courtesy. Hopefully, they’ll comply. These kids today. Why I oughta… In any case, I had a lovelier than lovely day yesterday. I did get up a little earlier than planned, thanks to my next door neighbor who was setting up for his party and rather loudly, I may add. I just spent the early morning hours relaxing, and then I addressed packages and happily had just enough boxes for all the Stu Phillips orders, so everything is fine for shipping those out on Tuesday morning. But I also have about forty or fifty new Promises, Promises orders from people who actually understand that a product needs to be purchased in order for them to own it. Not like these kids today – why, I oughta… So, as soon as I get my new shipment of boxes we’ll do those and get those out on Tuesday, as well. I then filled out our latest contracts and wrote those checks for those advances and got that in the mail. I then had some Gold Star Chili dogs – my low-cal, low-fat hot dogs, with about a half a can of chili spread between them and then some low-cal, low-fat shredded cheddar cheese, onions, and mustard. They were most excellent. I then finished preparing everything for our new release announcement, and by the time all that was finished it was time to mosey on over to the partay.

As usual, Tony Slide and Bob Gitt threw a grandly grand bash, with most of the usual suspects in attendance, including Norman Lloyd, Marsha Hunt, Jack Larson, and many other nice folks. And, of course, my dear pal, film composer John Scott. Cousins Dee Dee and Alan were there, and it was quite fun. I hadn’t planned on eating anything, but since my low-cal, low-fat hot dogs really hadn’t done much damage, I had some excellent green salad, a little three-bean salad, and a little pasta salad – but not all that much of anything. For dessert, I had a tiny piece of peach pie. But the company was the thing and the thing was the company and the company was stellar. I shot a hi-def movie on my iPhone 4G, which I’m trying to figure out how to post somewhere. I don’t really want to put it on YouTube – I think I can link to it from the site where I house my still photographs, so I’ll try that. In any case, a good time was had by all and all was had by a good time, which is usually how it works, tit-for-tat-wise.

I then came home, watched a little of the fireworks, and continued watching a motion picture on the DVR entitled Tootsie, one of the most perfect comedies ever made. And that was how I spent my 4th of July. Oh, and Promises, Promises sold out.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because these kids today – why, I oughta…

Today, I shall announce our new release, and I shall print out postage and attach it to the packages – that really shouldn’t take all that long. Then I’m having luncheon at Hugo’s with dear reader Jeanne, and then I’ll come back home and hopefully print out a lot of orders. Then the rest of the day and night shall be mine all mine.

Tomorrow, we’ll ship out all the Stu Phillips CDs, and then address the boxes for the Promises, Promises orders and get those out, too. Should be a busy little day. Then I’ll do some writing on the little script David Wechter and I are working on.

The rest of the week is filled with meetings and meals, not necessarily in that order, and I think I have to see a couple of shows, too.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, announce a new release, print postage, have lunch, and hopefully print out a lot of orders. Today’s topic of discussion: Growing up, I loved the comics of the day – especially Shelly Berman, Louis Nye, and Bob Newhart (and my favorite, Jack Benny, but he was a huge star for years). Who were and are your all-time favorite comics of that era, and who are the comics of today that you actually find amusing? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I stay on top of that site that is offering illegal downloads – these kids today – why I oughta…
