RANDOM NOTES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this week is already flying by, like a gazelle with acid reflux. Speaking of acid reflux, did you know I have not had a single case of heartburn or acid reflux since I lost weight and began drinking water two years ago? It’s quite amazing when you think about it, although why you would be thinking about my acid reflux and heartburn that I no longer get is anyone’s guess. I still don’t like drinking water, but I have at least two bottles a day and, of course, I cut back my Diet Coke intake to one or two a day, which, considering I was occasionally downing nine a day, is really something. I wonder if people who actually took acid (LSD) got acid reflux? Reflux is an amusing-looking word, isn’t it? It just sits there like so much fish looking completely random, rather like these completely random notes. Yesterday was an interesting day, wasn’t it? For example, I got up. That was interesting. I began the day by revising some of my liner notes, after which I did a two-mile jog. I then had several telephonic conversations, and then we had a rehearsal for the Kritzerland at the Gardenia show. Everyone ran their numbers a couple of times, and each time they got more secure, so that was good. I hadn’t seen Pam Myers in ages, so it was really fun to chat and listen to her incredible voice warble some incredible songs. She’s a delight, as is everyone in this merry troupe. I have learned a few lessons doing this first show – what works and what doesn’t, so the follow up shows should be a little more organized and I now know exactly what to tell the performers in terms of time commitment. Apparently, we’re going to have a nice turnout, with over thirty-two dinner reservations (very good for the Gardenia) and then the show-only folks, many of whom will just show up. We’re all very excited. After everyone left, I was quite hungry, and knowing I would be having an apple fritter and a cinnamon roll I had a small egg salad sandwich and no fries for my meal o’ the day. And I have to tell you, it was the smallest sandwich I’ve ever seen, which was good, because I did indeed have an apple fritter and a cinnamon roll, because my mouth was watering from all the yummilicious donut descriptions in yesterday’s posts. I haven’t had anything like that in some time and I think I went into sugar shock. I became quite hyper and found myself dancing the Lambada (The Forbidden Dance) in my bare feet. In fact, I was so hyper that I did another two-mile jog. Then I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched some more Dragnet episodes – nothing too great, but one terrific shot of 1968 Hollywood and Vine, and one terrific shot of 1968 Fairfax Avenue, with Canter’s looming large. Oh, and in one most amusing shot, they say they’re heading north from Sacramento – however, their car is, in fact, driving on Moorpark about five minutes from my home environment.

After that, I realized I had two pieces of incorrect information in my liner notes (something made me do a search on Google, and I turned out to be right that I was wrong – and do you know where Google led me for the correct information? A little site called haineshisway.com circa 2002. Isn’t that funny? I then had a couple of telephonic conversations, one with Mr. David Wechter, one with Miss Alet Taylor, and one with the Kritzerland designer to implement the final changes into the liner notes, which are now going off for approval.

Has anyone noticed that it is the final day of August? How can that be? And tomorrow brings September, a month we hope and pray will be filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity and all things bright and beautiful.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because so I can finish these completely random notes.

Today, the helper will be here at ten do put postage on a LOT of packages, and then we have a few other things that need doing. She’ll leave at one, at which point our musical director arrives. We’ll work together, and then some of the singers will arrive to work their songs. At three, all singers will be in attendance and we’ll do a stumble-through of the whole show to see how the order feels. I won’t be doing my contextual commentary, as I haven’t figured out what it’s going to be yet. After rehearsal, anyone who wants to stay and run stuff can. Then a few of us will go get something to eat. Tonight I’ll be writing the contextual commentary, which will mostly be culled from the Lost in Boston booklets.

Tomorrow, I’ll work on the contextual commentary, and we have a sound check at two. Then I’ll relax until I go back to sup at seven-thirty. And then it’s show time.

Thursday, I’m having lunch with two huge Adriana Hofstetter fans – I’m really looking forward to that. We’re lunching at one of the prime recurring Hofstetter locations, Mel’s Diner in Hollywood, where I’m sure we’ll share some of Adriana’s beloved chili cheese fries.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, have a rehearsal, eat, and write. Today’s topic of discussion: I think since we are having random notes we should have a random topic, say what is your very first childhood memory, the first thing you can actually remember from when you were a kid? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, wishing everyone a September filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful.
