THE BIG DECISION

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry because I must be up at six in the morning to announce the new Kritzerland limited edition. I’m hoping there will be a LOT of orders to print. I must say that yesterday as I was doing my three-mile jog I made a very big decision and that decision is to start a new book next week. I’ve been itching to write and normally I won’t start the new book until January 1, but since I’ve already decided to write a part two to my memoir starting in January (and best of all, I’ve already got the title), I just thought why not – I did this once before after finishing Rewind I was in a huge writing mode and began the short story collection. So, I’ve been pondering this for a few months and today on the jog everything just sort of fell into place in terms of the story and what I want to do, and yes, it will be the fourth Adriana Hofstetter book. Part of what made me want to start is hearing about the young girl who loves the books so much that she and her friend have reread them multiple times – that just made me so happy, and I kind of had an idea how to begin the next one and yesterday the impetus for the story came to me strongly and it will be a very interesting book to write, I think, and a little different than the other three in terms of its mystery. So, unless something happens and I begin and it doesn’t feel like now is the time to write, I shall be writing a new novel beginning next week at some point. Other than that, I had a very relaxing day. I got a great night’s sleep (I didn’t go to bet until two, but I slept till eleven), I did the aforementioned three-mile jog, then I did some stuff around the home environment and then I had some eggs and bacon at Jerry’s Deli. After that, I watched about forty minutes of a motion picture on the DVR, entitled Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell. I’d never seen it before and I must say I’m finding it rather delightful. I’ll finish it this very evening. Then I drove to the Dena of Pasa to sup with a friend I haven’t seen in over six months.

We drove to Old Town Pasadena and parked, and just walked until we found a restaurant that looked like fun and that we could get in without a wait. It was a Japanese Noodle Shop and boy was it good. I had salmon in teriyaki sauce, rice, a teeny-tiny salad and miso soup (didn’t really eat the latter). My dinner companion had one of the ramen dishes, which she professed to love. After dinner we walked for a while. Old Town gets a very “hip” and trendy crowd and since I don’t like hip or trendy I’m not feeling the need to go back for quite a while. Lots of whorishly-dressed young women with their too-loud male friends or boyfriends, a lot of outdoor patios where people slosh back a lot of alcohol, and the ubiquitous Cheesecake Factory with its line of waiting people outside, as if there’s not 100 other places to dine within a three-block radius. Still, it was nice to see my friend, and I got to see her new house, which she’s slowly but surely fixing up.

I then came home and watched the latest episode of Mad Men, which is starting to feel a little repetitious. There was more family stuff in this episode, and I must say the way they’re treating Don’s daughter Sally is a little creepy. Don is his usual charmless self. Some good scenes, though, and the acting, as always, is excellent.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must be up very early and need as much beauty sleep as I can get.

Today, I will make our announcement, hopefully print out a LOT of orders, then the helper will arrive at ten and we’ll address the packages for the Billy Barnes CDs, which should be here by Thursday I should think. The new master will be sent to the pressing plant (the print went in on Friday). Then the helper is going to start doing some reorganization in the garage environment. After that, I’ll get something to eat, do errands and whatnot, and continue making notes for the new book (I actually started making notes for it towards the end of last year, before I’d completely decided to do the memoir, and I’ve been making notes here and there all this year, but especially in the last couple of days).

I’m not at all certain about the rest of the week, other than having to finish liner notes and get the mastering guy to assemble a big project that will then go through a long approval process – but we’ve got to get that done and a new title so that we have something to release while that long approval process goes on. I’m not sure what will be next – we have several projects that would be fairly easy to put together, so I have to choose one.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora and the mambo, for today is the birthday of our beloved TCB. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our beloved TCB. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR BELOVED TCB!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, make an announcement, print out orders, address packages, organize, jog, eat, hopefully pick up some packages, and then continue choosing songs for the Unsung Musicals event – I’ve just added the wonderful Andy Taylor to that show – Andy was on Broadway in Moon over Buffalo, and played Leo in the national tour of The Producers. He’s also married to Alet. I’ve got a couple of other calls out and we’ll see how that pans out. Today’s topic of discussion: What is your favorite mystery series in book and film? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hope that the big decision turns out to be fun and creative.
