DILATED

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I think I shall write these here notes in a hurry because I’m still feeling the effects of being dilated and my eyes are really sensitive even six hours after said dilation and the light from the computer screen is really bothersome right now. And that is the price one must pay when one is dilated ($3.46). I had a very confusing day yesterday because I kept thinking it was Monday and yet it was Tuesday and that was confusing because it felt like Monday but it was not Monday, it was Tuesday. I got up early. It felt like Monday. The helper arrived at ten. It felt like Monday. And so it went. And went it so. She packaged up a bunch of orders, we ordered 700 more boxes for the shipping of Sugar, then we went to the postal office and shipped the packages she’d prepared, after which we went to storage and pulled the music for the Unsung Musicals Gardenia show. Once again, there were no piano/vocals at all from the first album (we had everything from albums two and three), so I once again had to ask Michael Lavine (who got a lot of this stuff from me) to send me the six songs we’re doing from the first album. Hopefully those will arrive by the end of the week. This damn light is too bright. Faster, quicker, funnier, that’s what I say. After that, the helper left, I printed out more orders, answered e-mails and then had a lunch meeting with a very nice and talented singer. She had a lot of questions for me, and vice versa and also versa vice. It was quite a long lunch, and after that I just happened to go to a nearby optometrist and glasses store. I’ve been meaning to do this for some time, but hadn’t a clew as to where to go. This one is quite popular with the populace, and I immediately found two pairs of frames I really liked. So, with those in hand, I was taken back to the doctor who runs the jernt, a very nice lady – she’s been doing this for thirty years now and is very thorough. She gave me the full eye exam, put some drops in my eyes (very yellow these drops) and did her thing. She was meticulous about my eyeballs and their focus. Then she dilated my eyeballs. I’m getting progressive lenses with the latest technology for the very first time and she thinks I’m going to love them, which I hope I will. It’s not cheap, but I figure I don’t get glasses very often and it will be nice to see in focus in both eyes. She said my right eye keeps getting better and is near perfect. My left eye is really out of focus but she said that it, too, has gotten a little better since my last prescription – she said that previous prescription bore no relation to my eyeballs now and that’s why I couldn’t see out of those glasses anymore.

After that, I came home, did a mile and a half jog (with sunglasses, although yesterday was completely gray all day), and then I sat on my couch like so much fish.

I watched one episode of Thriller, one of the most beloved – Pigeons from Hell. It was okay and not as creepy as I remembered it being. After that, I just tried to listen to music and not be in the light.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because this light is making me nauseous and is really irritating my eyeballs because six hours later I’m still sensitive to being dilated.

Today, I shall get up, do a jog, write some liner notes, and then I have a two o’clock meeting at LACC, although I have not had confirmation of that yet. Then I’m going to see The Glass Menagerie at the Mark Taper Forum, although I haven’t had confirmation of that either. And for those of the Jewish persuasion (me included) may I just wish everyone a very happy Jewish New Year and may it be filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity and all things bright and beautiful.

Tomorrow, the helper will be back to pick up the 700 boxes and she’ll take them and the invoices home to do the addressing. Other than that, I’ll just finish the liner notes and get them to the designer. Friday, I’m finally going to Teddy – my hair is outrageously unkempt right now.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, have a meeting, see a play, and eat something. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, as I hit the road to dreamland, and by the time I awaken I hope to no longer be dilated.
