HOTEL

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am trying an experiment. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, I, BK, am trying an experiment. I am sitting on an aeroplane high in the sky writing on my iPad. If this experiment works (writing in “Pages”), I should be able to e-mail myself this document and then cut and paste it into my usual Word doc and voilĂ , I’ll have some notes. I am sitting next to two gabby women. They didn’t know each other but have now bonded and are chattering away. They’re giving me a headache, actually, because they have really irritating voices. Typing on an iPad is weird. Anyway, I managed to get about five hours of sleep and had a pleasantly pleasant drive to the airport, courtesy of driver Gil. Once at the airport I waited in the longest security line I have ever seen. It took about a half hour to get to the security station. Once there, everything went very quickly. Then I found they’d changed the gate, so I went to the new gate. I got on the plane right away, got my extra legroom seat, which is quite nice, and now I am high in the sky sitting next to two chattering women. Two Chattering Women – that’s the title of my next novel. To be continued.

By gum and by golly and buy bonds, the damn thing worked. I saved the Pages page as a Word doc, e-mailed it to my ver own self, and I just opened it, cut and pasted it into this document and voila – the first paragraph was done. The flight was very nice and we arrived early. I got a cab and it was one of the fastest trips into the city I’ve ever had. I checked into the hotel – the gal was very nice and she upgraded me to a room with a view on the 17th floor. I really like this hotel. Within five minutes of my being in the room the gal had called to make sure the wireless was working (it was) and that I was happy (I was). The rooms are nice-sized, there’s a widescreen TV, the wireless works, and I’m very contentedly content. I unpacked, then took a walk to a nearby Duane Reade, where I got some incidentals like toothpaste, and also six bags of chocolate Twizzlers, which can’t be found in LA. Then I came back to the hotel and loaded the latest Kritzerland master into iTunes and listened to it. I could see there was a problem right away – only twenty-six tracks rather than the twenty-seven listed on the packaging. Then I found the error – the packaging has skipped a number, so even though the job had gone to print, we fixed it and the inlays are being reprinted tomorrow. The master sounded good even on the lousy laptop speakers, so I’ll approve it and off it will go to the pressing plant.

I then walked a mile to Joe Allen and met our very own Mr. Adam Cates for a meal. It was grand to be back at Kritzerland’s favorite New York jernt, although a little dismaying that yet another of my favorite dishes had gone the way of the dodo bird, this time the tostada, chorizo and eggs. It’s been replaced by huevos rancheros, but that doesn’t interest me. If they keep removing dishes, I’ll start frequenting Angus instead. I had the chicken sandwich and potato chips and a small Caesar salad and one piece of bread. I skipped dessert. It was fun to catch up with Adam – he’s been choreographing and dancing and having fun. We spoke of many things and I brought him up to date on various and sundried projects. I then jogged the mile back to the hotel. I sent the audio samples to the web guy and answered e-mails and made a couple of telephonic calls.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’ve got a busy day and must also try to buy a sweater for my TV appearance. I saw one in a nearby store window that looked very nice, so that’s where I’ll go after I do my morning treadmill in the gym.

Today, I shall get up by eight-thirty, do the treadmill for forty minutes, then go buy the sweater I saw. Then I’ll shave and shower and get ready for my TV appearance on something called ABC News Now: What’s the Buzz. I have no idea if it’s TV or Internet, but it will be fun to do, I’m sure. Then I’ll come back to the hotel, figure out what selections I’m reading and then I’ll arrive at the Drama Bookshop at five for the five-thirty reading and discussion. I really hope we have a decent crowd – I really have no way of knowing. So, if you’re coming bring friends and neighbors – the more the merrier.

After the signing, we’ll reconvene at Joe Allen’s at eight for our hainsies/kimlets get-together, which I’m very much looking forward to.

Tomorrow I’ll be in the studio to record with Rebecca Luker and Skip Kennon – that should be fun and I haven’t seen Luker in a ‘coon’s age, so that will be great. After that, I think I’m having dinner with a friend, and I’ll try and get to bed early for my very early Sunday morning flight. So, keep those excellent vibes and xylophones coming for the weather to stay nice, for an on-time, safe and stress-free flight home.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the treadmill, I must buy a sweater, I must do an interview, I must do a reading and signing and I must attend a get-together. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, the new Kritzerland master (not really a CD, but iTunes). DVD, nothing. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I get ready to sleep in this very nice hotel.
