ON MY WAY TO NEW YORK, NEW YORK, THE CITY THAT NEVER SLEEPS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am writing these here notes very early so I can get to bed at a reasonable hour and get some sleep before being on my way to New York, New York, the city that never sleeps. I’m really looking forward to this trip, which includes dinner with friends, doing a local ABC news program, a book signing, a hainsies/kimlets get-together at Joe Allen, recording some Skip Kennon songs with Rebecca Luker, more dinner with friends, and then being on my way back to LA. I’m staying at a hotel that is new to me – it sounds very nice and is in Chelsea, an area I’m quite fond of. I’m hoping we have a nice turnout for the signing – one never knows, of course, but hopes are high and high are hopes. It’s hard to believe that it’s been an entire year since I was last in New York, New York, the city that never sleeps.

Remember how I had it all planned out perfectly that I would do almost nothing yesterday so that I could just have a relaxing carefree day? Well, it wasn’t quite all that. I did get a good night’s sleep, did some work on the computer, and then turned on the laptop to make sure everything was working fine – it wasn’t. The Mobile Me sync was giving me a warning window and asking me questions I couldn’t really answer, so I chose the option I remembered from the last time we had this very same problem. Unfortunately, it didn’t work and not only did it not work, it nuked all my recent calendar events and recent contacts from both laptop and iPhone. They were still on the main computer, though. So, I had to go deliver a big box o’ CDs, and I came right back and initiated a chat session with a Mobile Me expert. He ultimately had me start from scratch, nuking everything from Mobile Me and doing a set up all over again – his feeling was that mistakes were made when we did the initial setup and that’s what’s been causing the problems. I have no idea it that was true or not, but I just did what he told me – it took over an hour because we had to do the same set up stuff on each device – the main computer, the laptop, and the iPhone, but when all was said and done and also done and said everything was working properly, so hopefully we have fixed these issues once and for all and for all and once. Two of our ensemble gals came and got their music and CDs – I never heard from the fourth gal, so I’m probably going to replace her because flakes I do not need. Then I went and had a sandwich and a few onion rings, after which I picked up some packages and no mail. I then did some banking and didn’t buy any travel-sized toothpaste, since I can just get that at any old Duane Reade or CVS in New York, New York, the city that never sleeps. I then packed, charged up all devices, and did a two and a half mile jog. Then I finally sat on my couch like so much fish – so hardly a day of complete relaxation but at least I got a little.

Last night, I watched half a motion picture on DVD, one of those movie on demand things, this time from Columbia. The movie was entitled Man on a String, starring Mr. Ernest Borgnine and Mr. Kerwin Matthews, directed by Andre De Toth. The first half was pretty okay – it’s a sort of commie spy picture and it moves right along and has some lovely location shots in LA, New York, and Berlin. I’ll watch the rest upon my returning this Sunday.

Then I shaved, made sure everything was packed and that the things that go in last-minute are ready to go. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because soon I shall post these here early notes, get some sleep, and be on my way to New York, New York, the city that never sleeps.

Today, I shall be on my way to New York, New York, the city that never sleeps. So, please send lots of your most excellent vibes and xylophones for an on-time, stress-free safe flight, with excellent weather for my entire trip and trip home. Tonight, I’m meeting our very own choreographer supreme, Mr. Adam Cates – we’ll either be at Joe Allen or the Brooklyn Diner, so if you’re not doing anything around eight, check the posts to see where we’ll be and drop on by, and tell them Bruce-O sent you.

Tomorrow, I’m up early and on my way to a TV studio to do a live interview for the book on some local ABC thing. Then I’ll walk around for a while and then mosey on over to the Drama Book Shop at five to get ready for the five-thirty reading and Q&A part of the signing event. The actual signing starts at six-thirty and goes to seven or so. Then we’ll convene at Joe Allen at eight. So, if any of our East Coast dear readers or lurkers are on the fence about coming, get off that fence and get your butt cheeks down to the Drama Book Shop – and tell them Bruce-O sent you.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, get up early, be driven to LAX, have an on-time, stress-free safe flight, with perfect weather for my entire trip and trip home. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite spy and espionage films? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland and then get ready to be on my way to New York, New York, the city that never sleeps.
