NIPS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I have discovered an insidious little candy called Nips. These insidious little candies, described as a rich and creamy hard candy are quite yummilicious and quite addictive and it is quite easy to get hooked on them and if you do you will soon have a Nips on your back. I am currently sucking on a Nips. As one sucks one eventually reaches the center of the Nips which has either a chocolate parfait filling or a peanut butter filling, both extremely tasty. Best of all, a single Nips candy has only thirty calories. But, like Lay’s potato chips (do they still make Lay’s?), bet you can’t just eat one. In any case, I think Nips are pips and I recommend them highly as a nice, low-cal way of satisfying a sweet tooth. I, for example, have just sucked on two insidious Nips and they have satisfied my sweet tooth – actually I had three sweet teeth and the Nips have satisfied all three. What the HELL am I talking about? What am I, doing a commercial for Nips? Hey, Nips, since I’m plugging you on a website that will soon be the most popular website on all the Internet, well, the least you can do is send me a case. A Case of Nips – that’s the title of my next novel. Yesterday was a very busy day. I got up late after a very good night’s sleep. I did stuff on the computer, including testing our new release page. It was too gray and chilly to go jogging, and besides I had to make five CDRs and organize all the music for our singers. So, that I did, which took about two hours, after which I had to go view and approve the two clip reels that will be shown at the JMK event on November 13. I do hope some of our hainsies/kimlets will be popping over to Portland to see it. After that, I went to the mail place and picked up no mail and no packages – so, once again the important envelope was not there, which is very bad. So, hopefully it will be here Monday – if not, I’ll have to drop the errant and truant sender a line to see what’s what. As I’ve said, I cannot have these people get a week behind like this in their payments. I then came home and three of our singers came by to pick up their CD and music. I then created an event page on Facebook for the new Kritzerland show and within five minutes the same ten people who always say they’re not attending said they’re not attending and I hate to say that it includes the gentleman who designed this here site – but then again, one never hears from that gentleman about anything at all, and it’s why the site is going to be completely redesigned and brought up to date. This discussion board will remain the same, but the actual haineshisway.com site will be very different. It’s very complicated to do without any help, due to wanting to save our archives. After that, dear reader Druxy and his ever-lovin’ Sandy showed up and we all moseyed on over to Hugo’s for dinner.

We had a wonderfully wonderful dinner with lots of sparkling chatter and excellent food. It was great to see Druxy and Sandy again. After dinner, I came back home to await the arrival of my art dealer friend.

My art dealer friend arrived and had several goodies to show me. He took a tour of my walls and also looked at all the stuff that was not on walls, much of which is just stacked in the garage. Although it hadn’t been my intention to do any business, we did end up doing a little bartering – he got some stuff he seemed to like, stuff I didn’t really care all that much about, and I got a couple of really nice pieces. But I just love looking at illustration art, whether it’s mine or not. We went online and looked at the prices realized for today’s big Heritage Art Auction – the first big lot of stuff brought absolutely outrageous prices – I don’t know who’s buying this stuff but I’d like to have some of their dough. The pin-up art went for huge dollars, but the biggest sale of the day was the black-and-white cover art for the hardcover book, Charlotte’s Web – it went for over $150,000 – which is, in my opinion, totally insane. One Saturday Evening Post cover (and not by one of their major artists) went for over seventy grand. Considering I once owned three Post cover paintings, heaven knows what they would have brought in this auction, especially the Leyendecker. The second half of the auction was for lesser material, although there were some beautiful pieces – some of these went so cheaply I wish I’d been online or on the phone bidding. By cheaply, I mean a couple hundred bucks. But the more the prices on the good items climb, the more my pieces are worth, so that’s the upside. The downside is that very few people can afford to collect illustration art – a genre that was easily affordable a mere year ago.

After my friend left, it was too late to watch a motion picture and so I just sat idly at my computer and ate some insidious Nips. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because it is late and I must get my beauty sleep.

Today, I think I might be able to relax a little, which would be very nice. I’m having lunch with dear reader Jeanne at two – we’re going to an Indian place she likes. Now, I haven’t eaten Indian food since 1973, when I had a very bad experience. My cousins ordered everything extra hot – one bite and I was done for the evening. I drank about five Diet Cokes and ten glasses of water and still was on fire. I don’t think I could actually taste anything for three days. Today I will be ordering whatever I eat mild. Then the two other singers will be picking up their stuff.

Tomorrow, we announce our new title, and then the helper will be here to begin a huge reorganization of boxes and stuff. That will take all of the three hours she’s working. The rest of the week is quite busy with meetings, an interview for the book, an hour-long Q&A at LACC on Thursday, and the opening night and partay for Happy Days, The Musical on Friday.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, relax, have lunch with dear reader Jeanne, give music and CDs to singers, and then watch a motion picture or three. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I suck on just one more insidious Nips candy.
