October 1, 2010:

OCTOBER AKA THE TENTH MONTH

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I have some rather surprising news for you – it is October aka The Tenth Month. I don’t know about you, but that is surprising news and means we are in the last three months of this year, which is astonishing to the likes of me. This year has flown by, like a gazelle singing the hits of Teresa Brewer. So, here’s hoping for an absolutely wonderful October filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful. And something happens in October that can never happen again – it happens on the tenth day of the tenth month of 2010 – in other words, 10/10/10. I love when that happens. That just gives me goose bumps and also it gives me duck bumps because we should never only have goose bumps or the ducks get upset at the geese and then the geese get upset at the ducks and then the geese put all their ducks in a row and bump them to death. What the HELL am I talking about? Where was I? Oh, yes, hoping we all have a wonderful October. The final day of September was a fine one. I got up around eight-thirty, answered e-mails, and then began my day of writing. I first did all the between-song commentary for next week’s Kritzerland at the Gardenia show. As I was doing it, I realized I want to change the order of two numbers, just flipping their position. It does mean that one person sings a solo and then a duet back-to-back, but it’s better for the flow of the show and also the show of the flow. After that, I did a two-mile jog, after which I began a new scene for the screenplay that David Wechter and I are writing. It took about two hours to do it, but I got it done and I think it’s pretty good. I had a few telephonic calls, then sat on the couch like so much fish and watched last Sunday’s episode of Mad Men – I’d completely forgotten to watch it. It was a good episode. Then I got ready and moseyed on over to Hugo’s in West Hollywood for a nice dinner with my friend Lauren Rubin.

Last night, I had a lovelier than lovely dinner with my friend Lauren Rubin, who, I must say, looks gorgeous. I had a small Caesar salad and a barbecue chicken sandwich with a few fries, and I had about half of a chocolate mousse for dessert. We had a lovelier than lovely chat and she told me what she’s been up to and I told her what I’ve been up to and then we both knew what we were up to, which is always a good thing, knowing what your up to-wise. At one point she said to me, “Isn’t that your friend?” I turned around and there was my friend Bruce Vilanch waiting in the front of the restaurant. I went over to him and we had a really funny chat about this and that and also that and this. He knew about the Gardenia shows and if we can find the right one, he said he’d be happy to do one of them, which I think would be great fun. We finished our dinner, but before leaving I introduced Lauren to Bruce and his friend, and we all chatted a little while longer. Lauren would also like to do one of the Gardenia shows, so we’ll see if that can happen at some point. After dinner, I headed home. I had things to do on the computer, so I didn’t watch a motion picture on any format.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because it’s October aka The Tenth Month, a month that will hopefully be filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful for everyone – and Halloween – let’s not forget Halloween.

Today, I may have breakfast with an old friend – the producer of Totally Hidden Video. I haven’t seen him since 1992, probably, so I’m hoping it works out. Then I have a bunch of errands and whatnot to do, some packages to ship, and hopefully some packages and mail to pick up. Then we have a rehearsal starting at two-thirty, which should probably go till four-thirty or five. After that, I’m meeting the singer to continue our discussions and especially looking at the song list.

Not sure what’s happening on Saturday, other than having to write liner notes and start prepping the November Gardenia show. On Sunday, of course, I’m attending the opening night of Leap of Faith and going to the after-party, which I’m very much looking forward to.

Next week is a very busy week, what with prepping our new release, several lunches, dinners, and meetings, our stumble-through for the Gardenia show, the show, and lots o’ other stuff.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, maybe have a breakfast with an old friend, do errands and whatnot, rehearse, have an early dinner meeting and then perhaps watch a motion picture. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, Jerry Goldsmith’s Brotherhood of the Bell soundtrack, and upcoming Kritzerland projects. Blu and Ray, next up is Tommy, plus I have Knock on Wood on DVD, along with a few Columbia movie on demand titles. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we hope for an October that is filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful.
