PESTO AND ART

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, the adventure continues – reorganizing the garage and getting all extraneous stuff that’s been piling up everywhere out there and organized. I suspect that this task will be through mid-week. That’s basically what I spent the day doing, that and some errands and whatnot, picking up a couple of packages and an important envelope, doing some banking, and playing through some potential Guy Haines songs. I also did a little writing on the script I’m doing with Mr. David Wechter. I was quite tired all day yesterday on account of only getting about five hours of sleep – I shall try to rectify that situation today, oh, yes, I shall try to rectify that situation. I never got a chance to jog, but I was kind of on the move all day, so at least I wasn’t stagnant. And then I moseyed on over to my friend Debby’s where I supped with her and her daughter, Olivia. Actually, it was Olivia who cooked the dinner. As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve known her since she was a little girl, but she’s now around twenty-five and a very bright, charming, funny, and amazingly talented young woman. But before we get to that, she is also a terrific cook – she made fried cheese with a slice of avocado on top for an appetizer. Then an excellently excellent salad with homemade croutons. Our main course was chicken and pasta with a pesto sauce – it was yummilicious and I ate all of it right up. The conversation was sparkling, irreverent, and pretty hilarious at times. I don’t think I’ve ever been a fan of pesto before but it was really quite tasty and quite green. After dinner we all went out to Olivia’s little studio located in a shed in the back yard.

And there I saw her latest paintings. Now, you must understand that this young woman has been painting for a very long time. Her mother is an artist, too (and teaches art), and I am in constant awe of artists who are good and interesting. Painting or drawing is an art that I have no aptitude in whatsoever. I basically cannot draw anything – never have been able to, and never will. I have a painting by Debby hanging in my living room, and it’s a wonderful little piece. When Olivia was twelve, I became her first patron, purchasing one finished painting and one that she created while I was sitting there. Well, she’s come a long way, baby, and she is so accomplished and interesting, with a unique style all her own. She’s been living in New Orleans and has sold quite a few paintings. Seeing her stuff in person was wonderful – her use of space and color and light is really special. So, let me plug her website – www.oliviahillart.com. Check out her paintings, especially her Carnival Mamou paintings, which are extraordinary. She had a couple of new things that aren’t on the website, and they were also pretty great.

After the art show, we decided we needed dessert, so we went to a jernt called Dish where I had a chocolate mousse pie (a slice, not the entire pie) and they had some sort of turtle bar. By that point I was so stuffed I was ready to vomit on the ground. All in all, a wonderful evening of Pesto and Art.

When I got home there was a DVD on my doorstep. It was the clip reel will be using for JMK’s event in Portland, which is coming up rather soon. I ran the DVD and there are some things we still have to fix – it’s flagged at 16×9 but the clips are all 4.3 so we have to fix that or else I look like a very wide Jew. A Very Wide Jew – that’s the title of my next novel. And my name is used way too much, so we’ll remove the majority of those instances. Otherwise, the clips are fine, move along quickly, and give you some idea of what I was about back then. There are clips (divided into acting and then writing/directing) from The Partridge Family, Happy Days, Tabitha, The Creature Wasn’t Nice, The First Nudie Musical, Likely Stories (my faux musical of The Elephant Man), etc.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’m about to keel over from exhaustion.

Today, I shall continue the adventure of reorganization, but only for a little while. Otherwise, I’m relaxing, eating, and watching motion pictures all the livelong day and night. I do have to figure out the order of the Gardenia show, which I’d like to have done before the singers arrive tomorrow for our first rehearsal.

Tomorrow, I have a ton of errands and whatnot to do, and then we have our first rehearsal, which I’m very much looking forward to. After that, I’ll probably go out and get something fun to eat. Tuesday, the helper is here and we’ll try to finish our reorganization. Once that’s done, the home environment will be spic and span and also span and spic, with everything neat and tidy and organized so that I can actually find things. What a concept.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, reorganize, relax, and watch motion pictures. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland and dream of pesto and art.
