TANDOORI TIKKA

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these notes in a hurry because I must be up at six in the morning to announce our new title. So, I’ll try to get these here notes posted early so I can get as much sleep as possible. Yesterday, I had a Bollywood sort of day in that I met dear reader Jeanne for lunch and she actually got me to set foot in my first Indian restaurant since 1972. Back then, I went with cousins Dee Dee and Alan and they ordered for the table – extra hot. Now, I like spicy as much as the next person so I was really looking forward to sampling an entirely new cuisine for me. One bite was all it took – one bite and my taste buds were done for two days. One bite and I had to drink three Diet Cokes and about eighteen glasses of water. I felt like my entire face was on fire. And that was it for Indian food. I wouldn’t even consider eating it or going anywhere near it. But, yesterday was the day I said okay, I’ll give it another whirl. I ordered something safe – tandoori chicken tikka, mild. It was indeed mild with just a little kick but not very much flavor. A little salt put it on its feet and I enjoyed it. It came with rice and something green in one bowl and something white in another – both of which made me want to vomit on the ground. Whatever pita-like bread we had was very good. So, it was fine – I don’t know that it’s something I need to do again, but at least I got through the meal without having to call the fire department. Tandoori Tikka – that sounds like a track on a Les Baxter album, doesn’t it? Prior to the meal, I’d had a really nice night’s sleep (although I didn’t really get to bed until two), got up, and basically just relaxed until lunch. After lunch, I came home and a very tall, very pretty Jane Noseworthy came by and picked up her CD and music. Then, a little later, our very own Alet Taylor picked up her stuff. I then did a three-mile jog, and a brisk one at that. Then I sat on my couch like so much tandoori tikka fish.

Last night, I watched the season finale of Mad Men. AMC’s teasers for the show were ridiculously stupid – making it seem as if earth-shattering things were going to happen, as if Mad Men was Lost or something. Shame on them – this show doesn’t need their hyperbole. What we got instead was basically just another episode – no huge cliffhangers, one nice surprise development with a character I’ve been enjoying, but no big act-enders or show end. And that’s a good thing and I’m glad the producer has the courage of his convictions and he should just bitch-slap AMC for those horrible promos. Then again, they bought his show so they can do whatever they please. After that, I listened to some music, answered e-mails, and made sure everything was prepped for the morning announcement. I finished the last four Nips and all was well with the world.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get these here notes posted so I can get some beauty sleep whilst I dream a little dream of Bollywood and tandoori tikka, who is also a stripper in India.

Today shall be a really busy day. I get up at six and announce our new title, after which I will hopefully be printing out a LOT of orders. After that, the helper is coming over and we’re going to do some huge box reorganization and then I’m taking my car in for its second oil change. That shouldn’t take more than an hour. After that, we have a few other things to do, and then the helper will leave. I’ll then go eat something and get prepared for an audio commentary session we’re doing for a Kritzerland project – our first Blu and Ray disc – very exciting. Since I’ll be moderating the commentary, I have to make sure I’m organized and up on the details so I know what questions to ask and how to prompt the participants to tell some great stories about the making of the film. That happens at six, and then I’ll finally come home and relax.

Tomorrow and Wednesday I have to figure out the order of the Gardenia show, I have to write yet more liner notes for our next two releases, and I’ve got to figure out what the two releases are that follow those. On Thursday I do a Q&A at LACC – one of the faculty will be asking me various and sundried questions and I will be answering them. Friday I attend the opening of Happy Days, The Musical and a little partay honoring Garry Marshall that precedes the show.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, announce a CD, print out a LOT of orders, do a jog, reorganize, get an oil change, and do an audio commentary session. Today’s topic of discussion: Since we’ve talked about Indian food, and even though we’ve done this topic before – what are the most exotic foods you’ve ever eaten? The best? The worst? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I dream of the stripper Tandoori Tikka and her twin 44s.
