GETTING RANDY WITH MY OATS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, what a difference eleven hours of sleep makes. I woke up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated and feeling my oats. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, I, BK, was being randy with my oats. And the oats LIKED it, let me tell you that. Of course, that reminds me of the story of The Randy Vicar and the Steel-Cut Oatmeal, but I shan’t relate that tale here for this is a family site. I had quite a busy day as it turned out, so I’m glad I finally had a great night’s sleep. I received a call that my aunt died at 103 years of age. What a long and wonderful run that is, and she was mostly healthy until the very end – nothing to be sad about, I think, just a long, terrific life to be celebrated. The funeral is Tuesday and I’m trying to rearrange the mixing session I have so I can attend. We shall see. I delivered a box o’ CDs and then went to Gelson’s and bought some lo-cal, lo-fat hot dogs, some buns, a little side of potato salad, some Liquid Plumber and some shaving cream (the latter two items were not for my luncheon). I came home and made three hot dogs (miraculously, under 500 calories for all three), and ate them along with the potato salad. I finished watching a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang. I’d actually never seen the thing all the way through, and while I don’t find it completely charming and do find it a little long, it’s still a fun ride and the Sherman Brothers’ songs are lovely and fun, as is the choreography. Dick Van Dyke is great, and Sally Ann Howes is fetching. The transfer (apparently off 70mm elements) is fantastic – sharp as a tack, nice color, and like new – in fact, I wish The Sound Of Music looked as sharp as this. The sound is robust and robust is the sound. Then I did all the prep work for our new Kritzerland CD release. I also proofed the liner notes and something about them continued to bug me and I finally figured out what it was. I did a quick redo of them (just changing the third person to the first person) and sent them to the guy who wrote them, who was fine with it and thought it was a good call. I got the audio samples to my web guy, and all that took quite a while. I then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched another motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Jacob’s Ladder. I saw it when it came out and didn’t think much of it, but I kind of sort of liked it this time around. Tim Robbins is quite good and the rest of the cast, including a very young Jason Alexander, is very good. It’s a real Bruce Joel Rubin film – once you know it’s by him you basically know what you’re in for, but the film’s conceits have been ripped off many times subsequently. Adrian Lyne, a director I normally don’t care for, did a good job with this. And the score by Maurice Jarre works very well. The transfer replicates the grimy, grainy look of the film very well, I thought. Of course, this kind of transfer confounds the pundits who “review” these things, and several gave it very low marks because none of the pundits had actually seen the film in theaters, which is always, always the problem with the pundits.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because frankly I’d like to continue feeling my oats. Yes, it’s come to that in the City of Studio.

Today, I shall hopefully awaken from a good night’s sleep, and then I have a bunch of errands and whatnot to do, and I’ll hopefully pick up a package or three, and hopefully I’ll print out a lot of orders for our new release. Our new release will be the first Kritzerland title to carry a parental warning. I’ll eat something fun and light, and then do some writing and organizing.

Tomorrow, I’ll hopefully be able to make the funeral and then I’ll have to rush back to my engineer’s home environment to do just a handful of tweaks to the Carrie mix. Then I have a work session with The Singer, and then Wednesday is pretty clear. And then it’s Thanksgiving with Barry Pearl and his ever-lovin’ Cindy, and then Friday we have our first Gardenia rehearsal, which I’m very much looking forward to.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do errands and whatnot, print orders, pick up a package or three, and eat something amusing. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your all-time favorite Sherman Brothers songs? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I continue getting randy with my oats.
