IT’S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry because it’s VERY late and I am VERY tired and I must be up VERY early. So, has anyone noticed that it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas? More importantly, has anyone noticed that in about two weeks this year will be over and a New Year will be upon us? If that doesn’t boggle the mind, I don’t know what will. Last night, I was at the Theatre West Christmas Partay. The Singer is a member there and she invited me, as I am not a member there, although I do know many members there. All right, get your collective minds out of the gutter. In any case, I was at the Theatre West Christmas Partay. We arrived about ten minutes after it had begun and I’d say half the food, in terms of the entrees, was already gone. That was fine by me as I’d eaten lunch. The Singer had made balls of meat, and I must say the minute she sat them down the members were all over those balls – it was a site to see. Soon the balls were gone and only the members remained. I saw my friend Barbara Minkus, and my friend Lloyd Schwartz (son of Sherwood, creator of The Brady Bunch and Gilligan’s Island), I saw my friend Sara Ballantine, and a few other people that I knew. We finally left and stopped at Jerry’s Deli so I could get some matzo brei and a bagel. Prior to the Christmas Partay, I had done some shipping, eaten a wonderful lunch consisting of a great pulled pork sandwich and very thin fries. I did a jog, I picked up one little package and then I came home and continued prepping our final releases of 2010. I sent off the packaging of one to those rights’ holders. I wrote some additional notes for the other (the actual liner notes are by someone else – I wrote about the nature of the release). I got the excellent news that the CDR (from the master tapes) of one of the releases will be ready for pickup this morning, so I can get that overnighted to the mastering guy and he’ll have it Wednesday morning, so that’s a hurdle that I no longer have to deal with. So, it does look like we’ll be all ready to announce next week. I listened to several CDs, I answered a lot of e-mails, and I had a really nice telephonic conversation with a really nice guy – this had to do with the e-mail I received a few days ago – the one that I said had some fun potential and that we needed excellent vibes and xylophones for. While it’s nothing to really talk about yet, the conversation was good and we’ll see where it all goes from here.

I also had a very nice chat with our very own Mr. Nick Redman – he’s got some very exciting things happening and the world will soon know all about it – I’ve known all about it for quite a while and it’s been hard to keep my big trap shut, but keep it shut I have. I also have been getting scores of wonderful e-mails about our Carrie release, which people are really enjoying.

Here’s an interesting thing: After thirty years of not wearing sweaters I am now in a really big sweater phase. I now own about twelve new sweaters and I love wearing them – sometimes just alone, sometimes over a shirt – I just love the look and it’s fun to be wearing them again after all these years.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because frankly it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, everywhere I go, and I like it – it makes me feel all warm and toasty as well as all toasty and warm.

Today, I have to be up early to pick up the CDR, which I’ll load into iTunes and then ship off to the mastering guy. Then I’m having a visit from Mr. Art Man, who will show me his latest offerings. Unless he wants to do some trading, I will enjoy looking at them and that is all. Then I have some errands and whatnot to do, some bills to pay, and then the helper will arrive and we’ll do our Costco run, then go to the Bank of Bur to set up for our CD release partay for Bukowsical. I have no idea who is coming or how many people will show up, and frankly my dear I don’t give a damn. I intend to have fun whether it’s five or fifty-five.

Tomorrow, I have a lunch with several film score enthusiasts – those are always fun. Then I will hopefully have a master to listen to. Thursday and Friday are busy days, and Saturday I believe I have a rehearsal with Linda Purl and Gregory Harrison, along with John Boswell. That means I have some work to do on a lyric before that meeting.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, pick up a CDR and send it to the mastering guy, I must have a visit with Mr. Art Man, I must jog, I must pay bills, I must run to Costco, and I must attend a CD release partay. Today’s topic of discussion: If you receive a box of assorted chocolates, what are your favorite kinds to have in the box? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
