RUDOLOPH, THE RED-NOSED REINDEER

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we are inching ever nearer to an appearance by Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer, who, by the way (BTW, in Internet lingo) had a very shiny nose. And if you ever saw him, you would even say it glows. Of course, I also like Norman, The Green-Eared Zebu, who, by the way (BTW, in Internet lingo), had a very pointy chin. And if you ever saw him, it would really make you grin. Well, we’re off to a fine start, aren’t we? In case it isn’t patently obvious, I am quite overtired, as I arose at six am to announce the new Kritzerland titles. Announce them I did, then I printed out orders for the next hour and a half, after which I went back to bed and slept for a couple more hours. I was awakened by the doorbell ringing, but when I got up it was patently obvious that the doorbell ringing was part of whatever dream I was having – there was no one at the door, not even Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Did you know that all of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names? And furthermore, they never let poor Rudolph join in any reindeer games, like Squash or Crazy Eights. What the HELL am I talking about? Oh, yes, I awoke to a non-existent doorbell. I printed out more orders, then the helper arrived and we did a lot of organizing and some shipping. After that, I had a spot of lunch at a restaurant called BJ’s, where I had their yummilicious pulled pork sandwich and a little salad. Then I went to the mail place, where I picked up no packages, but did pick up the important envelope, which was a good thing. I came home to many more orders, but had a couple of errands and whatnot to do and so I did them. I finally got my Christmas cards done and I did some banking. All the while, it was pouring rain and I got quite sopping wet. Then I came home and printed out lots more orders (it was a good Kritzerland day, thanks to two strong titles) – it looks like Casino Royale will probably sell out this morning, and Genghis Khan is down to about 125 copies. I then had a long telephonic conversation, and a few shorter telephonic conversations, dear reader Sam stopped by and gave me a box of chocolates, which was very sweet. I finally answered a lot of e-mails, and spent time on the telephonic device discussing a Kritzerland upgrade that will be happening before our next release – we’re weaning ourselves off paypal only and doing a proper shopping cart and secure checkout, so that people can pay however they like – any cc (or paypal – we’ll keep that option for a while) will work and it will be much easier for everyone concerned. We’re learning all the ins and outs now. After that, I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I started to watch another Frank Borzage silent motion picture on Blu and Ray, this one called Street Angel. I only got twenty minutes into it, and then I realized I had other things that I needed to do, mostly on the computer. So, I did them and that was that. Of course that was that – what is that going to be – this? I gotta tell you.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because today begins Winter Solstice, whatever the HELL that is, and I must get a good night’s beauty sleep.

Today, the helper is coming in for just a little while – a couple of things to ship and, more importantly, a Costco run to do, so that I have everything I need for our Christmas Eve Do – the only things I’ll have to buy on Thursday morning are rolls, onion, mushrooms, and a few other small items. All the big stuff (paper plates, all the partay stuff) I’ll get at Costco. After that, I think the rest of the day is pretty much mine all mine, although I have to do an event invitation for the January Kritzerland at the Gardenia show. I also have to figure out if I’m going to get out to Cabrillo to see their Christmas show. It’s at seven, and I just don’t relish the idea of doing that rush hour drive. But, maybe I’ll go out there at four and have a leisurely dinner at one of the nice restaurants next door (many to choose from). I suppose if I’m going to go it will be tomorrow night.

Tomorrow, I don’t know that I have anything at all planned and I shall try to keep it that way. As I type this paragraph it is really pouring outside. Won’t have to water the plants for quite some time. On Thursday, I’ll do my shopping very early, and then that’s that – nothing else planned until the following Monday. Oh, there are things I have to do, errands and whatnot, some writing, some prepping, but I should be able to get in some relaxing, some listening to music time, and some movie watching.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, ship a few things, do a Costco run, do errands and whatnot, hopefully pick up a package or three, and eat something light but amusing (right now I’m thinking about the Studio CafĂ© and their chopped salad, which I’ve become very fond of). Today’s topic of discussion: Continuing our Best Of lists – what were your favorite books of 2010? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer takes some comfort that he’ll go down in history.
