‘TIS THE SEASON TO BE JOLLY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it has finally dawned on me that we’re in the midst of the Christmas season. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, it has finally dawned on me that we’re in the midst of the Christmas season. ‘Tis the season to be jolly and as of this day jolly I shall be, and I shall say ho, ho, ho at every opportunity, unless I’m at the corner of Selma and Ivar. All I need is some jingle bells and some mistletoe or, at the very least, some mistlefinger, and I’ll be all set. I shall kiss anyone who walks under the mistletoe, so beware all ye who enter the home environment. I am in a kissing mood, so much so that yesterday I kissed a piece of blackened chicken. That was fun. Speaking of blackened chicken, yesterday was quite a nice day. I had a pretty good night’s sleep, then wrote then rustled up some liner notes and polished them. I did other things to do with prepping the next two releases, and then I moseyed on over to a Christmas partay at the home of the Kritzerland designer. There were some very nice folks there and lots o’ laughs, and some excellent foodstuffs. I partook of the seven-layer bean dip and I’m here to tell you that all seven layers of the seven-layer bean dip were to my liking. I had a tiny piece of honey-baked turkey, and a couple of cheese slices on wheat thins. I stayed for about ninety minutes and then I went to the mail place where I picked up a package and an important envelope, after which I came back home. Then I downloaded the new master for a late January or early February release and gave that a listen – it sounds quite excellent and is going to be excellent value for money – two classic never-before-released scores by a major composer on one jam-packed seventy-eight minute CD. I suspect it will be a very quick sellout. After that, I did some fixing of the liner notes and sent those off. Then I had a nice telephonic conversation and then I got ready for my evening’s entertainment.

I was taken to the Eclectic CafĂ© for dinner. I had a tostada with blackened chicken (which I kissed surreptitiously) and it was very good. My dining companion had lobster ravioli and the minute I took a taste of it I knew that was something I would order on my next visit – it was really yummilicous. Then we walked up to the El Portal to see a show called Remembering the Ladies – sort of a tribute show to some great ladies of the stage, screen, and recording studios. Not really much to say about it, other than that type of show is not really my cuppa. At the beginning of the second act there is some audience participation and as soon as I realized that that’s where things were headed I knew I’d chosen the worst seat in the theater – the hot seat. So, I was taken up on stage and sung to. Oy and vey. In the audience last night was Richard Chamberlain and Linda Evans. The audience was an older crowd and they seemed to enjoy it – and I got to see my old pal, casting director Marvin Paige. After that, I came home, answered e-mails, and continued trying to cast the January Gardenia show.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I really must try to get to bed at a reasonable hour so I get a good beauty sleep.

Today, I shall do some more prep work for our two late December titles, I shall jog, I shall eat something light but amusing, and I shall relax and watch a motion picture or three.

Tomorrow, and the rest of the week will be filled with meetings and meals and rehearsals and casting and kissing people under the mistletoe and feeling jolly and gay. I must also think about buying a few Christmas presents.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, do prep work, think of more casting possibilities, eat something light but amusing, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland feeling merry and jolly and Christmas-like.
