BOY, INTERRUPTED

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it was a day of interruptions for the likes of me. It was literally one interruption after another for the entire day. I really wanted to write eight to ten pages and I had trouble going a half a page without the phone ringing or an urgent e-mail coming in or someone coming by. By one I’d written all of one page and it was really starting to irk me, oh, yes, it was really starting to irk me. I also had to go pick up a package, I had to finesse the new Kritzerland at the Gardenia blurb, and it was just one of those days – you’ve heard of the film Girl, Interrupted – this was Boy, Interrupted. Several singers picked up their music, our musical director came by and we chatted for a while, and the one interruption that was welcome and great was a call from Richard Sherman telling me he’d love to be our special guest star – he’ll be playing and singing Feed The Birds and telling a little story about how it was Walt Disney’s favorite song. I finally managed to get about four pages written, and I hope they’re good – I’m with an interesting new character, so I’m enjoying the chapter very much. Then The Singer arrived and we went to the home environment of John Boswell to work on the three medleys were doing – we finalized those arrangements, which are really good, and John got them into his computer. We’ll have one more arranging session, and then John will put the entire show on a CD for us to work with whilst he’s out of town on several gigs.

After the session, The Singer and I popped over to the Studio Café, where I was glad to see my favorite waitress/singer Tyler working. We split some wings, and I had the chopped Eyetalian salad, which hit the spot perfectly. Then I came home.

I finally figured out a ballad for our young man who’s doing the show – a cut song from Mary Poppins – IF we can get the sheet music – if not, we’ll do a take down of it. It’s quite a pretty song.

I then wrote four more pages, which made me very happy – so I did get my eight pages done after all. And after today, I shall be in the final 100 pages. At this point in every Hofstetter book, I do the beats for the final chapters – just a little one-liner about what needs to be accomplished in each of the last nine chapters.

And that was my day of Boy, Interrupted. We also had to do a little rejiggering of our rehearsal schedule, but it worked out fine for everyone.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because it’s late and I’m tired and I shall now get some beauty sleep, which will hopefully not be interrupted until morning.

Today, I shall write without interruption. I will allow no interruption before its time. I shall write like the wind and do at least ten and hopefully twelve pages. The last two singers will pick up their music, I’ll do some errands and whatnot, but mostly I will write. Then I’ll be supping and I suppose I shall watch a motion picture on Blu and Ray.

Tomorrow, I may or may not have a meeting, and I’ll try to write another ten pages. I will also then print out and Xerox all the new pages, plus the rewritten pages from the previous batch, and I’ll get all those to Muse Margaret and hope she likes them. Friday morning CDs will arrive and the interim helper will get them and will be taking them to San Jose with her to package up and ship. She’s already done the labels and postage.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, futz and fix what I wrote yesterday, I must write ten to twelve new pages, I must give music to singers, I must hopefully pick up some packages, I must eat something light and amusing, and I must watch a motion picture or two. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland where I will hopefully be done with being boy, interrupted.
