GOOD TIRED

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I’m feeling pretty good right about now – tired, but good tired. Good tired is better than bad tired or tired tired. Good tired means you got everything you wanted done done and it feels good to know it’s done and it also frees up time so one is not always up against the wall, time-wise. Or is it up against the clock? It’s up against something and whatever it is I’m not up against it because I, BK, got everything I wanted done done. Done done. That’s redundant. Or should that be redonedant? My plan for yesterday was to finish the redo of the lyrics by one, and that part of the plan worked perfectly. Thanks to FJL and his hard work, he freed my mind to see exactly what needed to be done – this sort of thing is really hard – it’s not hard to think of the funny stuff or ideas, it’s hard to make them concise and fit a certain number of notes and a rhyme scheme. FJL sent lots of ideas and those ideas enabled me to really focus down and get it done – I ended up doing the first two verses, but the third section is mostly FJL because it was very funny and it worked. I sent it off to Gregory Harrison and he loved it. Then I went and had a sandwich and onion rings, and that was going to be it for the day. The rest of the day and evening were solely for relaxation. But several e-mails came in from Kritzerland customers who hadn’t received CDs and so I had to get the interim helper on the phone and those three conversations were difficult and I will admit I got riled and was not so nice. But by the end of it everything got worked out and we just need to get through the next week or two, but should the helper problem go beyond that or if I’m just feeling like this current thing isn’t working, then I’m hiring a new gal on Thursday. It will depend how everything goes down this week with the new invoices getting processed and having all the labels and postage printed and ready. I’ll know more about that tomorrow. I did apologize for my terse behavior, but the interim helper acknowledged that while terse behavior from me isn’t ever fun it was probably warranted. I really hate going to that land, but sometimes it just happens. I also wrote the contextual commentary for the Gardenia show, so that’s done now. I then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Army of Shadows, a French film from France, directed by Jean-Pierre Melville. It’s a fantastic film, one that gets better and better with each viewing (this was my third). A story of a group of French resistance people, the film is evenly paced, not a lot of action, but the filming style is so beautiful, and the story-telling so compelling that the whole thing is just hypnotic, as are most of Mr. Melville’s films. The performances, every single one of them, are spectacular, as is the musical score. The transfer occasionally looks great and sometimes looks a little milky, contrast-wise. Still and all, highly recommended by the likes of me. I then began watching Robinson Crusoe on Mars on Blu and Ray – I’ll write more when I finish it this evening, but the Blu-Ray looks incredible.

I finished with my viewing at eight and then for some reason I just got industrious and wrote the liner notes for our upcoming show release, as well as prepared the rest of the package’s credits and track titles. I also sent the audio samples of our soundtrack release, so we’re actually going to be ahead of the game for this release and not up against the wall or the clock.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’m tired – good tired – and I need my beauty sleep so that tomorrow I can be firing on all cylinders, whatever the HELL that means.

Today, I shall be up by nine and then I have a ten-thirty rehearsal with Miss Linda Purl and Mr. Gregory Harrison – I’m hoping we can play through the entire show from top to bottom, make sure it’s all working, discuss exactly what the patter needs to be, so that we can then begin staging the show. We really only have about six days total to get it all done, and then I have to decide right away if I’m going to go to Florida to be there for the opening. I’m just not sure yet. After that, I’ll eat something light but amusing, and then I plan to go get a printout of the new book so I can start proofing.

Has anyone noticed that this is the final day of January? Where did this month go? It flew by, like a gazelle in a sauna bath. Well, it was a nice month, and I’m hoping that February is even better, and that it will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful.

Tomorrow, we have our Gardenia stumble-through, Wednesday we have our sound check and show, and then it’s more meetings and meals and a book fair.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the Swim because today is the birthday of our very own dear reader Michael Shayne. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com to our very own dear reader Michael Shayne. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN DEAR READER MICHAEL SHAYNE!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a rehearsal, eat, and print out a book. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your all-time favorite French films from France? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland because I’m tired – good tired.
