THE STUPID SQUIRREL

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it’s been a long and winding day and evening and I am quite tired and I must be up early for a meeting and I will admit to just a teeny-tiny bit of being cranky. Not that there was anything wrong with my day, save for having a suicidal squirrel come out of nowhere, run in front of my car and then literally stop so that there was no way for me to avoid clipping it, which I did – I will NOT feel guilty about this because I have avoided hitting stupid squirrels since I’ve been driving and this is the first time it’s happened. This squirrel clearly did not graduate squirrel school where they teach you to get the hell across the street quick and do NOT stop or you will DIE. I’ve swerved, I’ve slammed on brakes, I’ve done it all, but today this stupid squirrel did his dash and did it in such a way that there was no opportunity for me to do anything but clip it – I did swerve to my right and had the stupid squirrel moved forward even a little the little bugger would probably be alive. But noooo, he just stood there like so much fish so that I could do nothing but clip him. Otherwise, the day was perfectly fine, even though the important envelope did not arrive. I was up before nine, wrote a page and took some Coldeez and some EmergenC since I woke up with my throat feeling a little funky. I think it had nothing to do with illness, just how I slept. I heard from Muse Margaret who’d read the first sixty pages of the book and she was very happy with them, except for a handful of teeny-tiny little word things in the first chapter. It took me all of thirty seconds to adjust those and then she was fine. She thought the plot was interesting and thought the funny stuff was really funny (and she loves the character I brought back from Hollywood Historical Society). So, that made me feel really good, and I mushed on, writing another three pages. Then Gregory Harrison arrived and we ran songs for an hour. Then Millicent Martin arrived and we ran her song for a half-hour. What a delight she is and she does the song divoonly. Then the Nightmare Trio arrived and rehearsed – it’s a VERY difficult arrangement and they’re still ragged, but it’s getting better and better and I’m sure by Tuesday’s stumble-through they’ll be fine. Then we had Zach Ford, then Juliana, then Alet, then Damon, then Kim – each of them did wonderfully, and then I had to mosey on over to the Gardenia to see my pal Linden Waddell do her new show.

The show was fun, and I was happy to see her musical director, Mel Dangcil, who musical directed me in several shows back in my LACC school days. The only person in the entire sold out club that I knew was Gary Stockdale. Linden had a LOT of family there and so it was a very appreciative crowd, which is always nice. Her daughter and sister took part in two different numbers.

When I got home, I sent my eBlast for our Gardenia show. I really wanted to write another couple of pages, but this morning’s ten o’clock meeting got moved to nine so I just have to go to sleep. I think the meeting will be over by eleven and then I can write for a few hours – I will absolutely do at least ten pages, if not twelve. But then I must write liner notes, a blurb for our new release, and do an edit road map for said release, so it will be a very busy Saturday.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’ve got to be up at eight and I must get some beauty sleep.

Today – well, I’ve already talked about today, so perhaps I’ll talk about tomorrow. Tomorrow I will mostly write, and finish prepping our new release, which announces on Monday.

Next week is incredibly busy with rehearsals, announcements, visitors, show, meetings, meals, errands and whatnot, and hopefully lots of writing. I must parcel out my time very carefully if I’m to get everything done. Once next week is over with, I’ll be able to have more time to myself.

These notes have no style, no flair, no thrills, no personality, no humor, no nothing. Tomorrow’s notes will have all of the above, but this is what happens when you run over a stupid squirrel.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a meeting, train an interim helper, write, do errands and whatnot, do an edit road map, write a blurb, and, at some point, eat. Today’s topic of discussion: I have no topic, so you’re on your own. Oh, here’s a topic – how many squirrels have you run over? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland – RIP Stupid Squirrel.
