FLITTING ABOUT WITH GAY ABANDON

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, my con agitato is calmer right now – not totally gone, but better. So, keep sending those excellent vibes and xylophones for not too many more problems, shipping-wise, because so far they’re working splendidly. I really hate to be agitated – I am not pleasant to be around when I’m agitated and when I’m agitated then most things just agitate me further. I don’t mean to regurgitate the agitate, I prefer to accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative. The new helper and I had a long talk and she is now the only helper and I think that will help everything to return to a state of normalcy. The state of normalcy is, I think, located somewhere near South Dakota. I am writing these here notes early and I’ll be posting them early, because I’ve been up since six and I’m very tired and I’ll be up no later than nine. The first part of yesterday was the agitated part. But I realized it was pointless until we know more about how deep the problem is, so I stopped being agitated. I worked with the helper, we shipped some things, and then I came home and printed out a nice amount of orders – this title is proving popular with the populace. After that, I did some errands and whatnot, picked up one package, did some banking, and then ate lunch at Hugo’s, where I had Past Mama (Pasta Papa without the bacon and sausage), and a small Caesar. Then I came home again, printed more orders, and had a couple of telephonic conversations. I figured out the printer issue, which was, as it turned out, a non-issue, just something I hadn’t ever noticed before – it’s all fine. Then I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I wasn’t really in the mood to watch a motion picture on Blu and Ray, so instead I checked out the transfer of Sweet Smell Of Success, which looks great, and then I watched the little documentary on the director, which was fun, and Neal Gabler’s video piece on Walter Winchell, which was not fun as Mr. Gabler suffers from Dr. Drew Casper disease – all huffing and puffing pontificating – just not my thing at all. Then I checked out the transfer of Visconti’s Senso, a film I’ve never seen and that I’m looking forward to. The titles are a bit alarming – faded and fuzzy and quite awful looking. The minute it cuts out of them the image is absolutely stunning, gorgeous 1950s Technicolor. The film stars Alida Valli and Farley Granger and I’ll have a full report after I’ve watched it. Then I checked out the first fifteen minutes of the Rankin/Bass animated feature, The Last Unicorn. I’ve never seen it before and while the animation isn’t Disney, the film looks like it will be good, has very good voice actors, has a screenplay by the novelist whose book the film is based on (Peter S. Beagle) and songs by Jimmy Webb performed by America – I’m sure it will be very enjoyable, based on what I’ve seen so far.

After that, I wrote liner notes for our next release, which I’m going to announce next Monday – I hate doing back-to-back releases like that, but I have to get off the schedule I’m on right now and that will do it. Then we’ll have two full weeks before the next release. I answered some e-mails and that was that.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get my beauty sleep, and then look forward to a hopefully drama and stress-free day.

Today, I shall hopefully flit about with gay abandon. I’ll be up by nine, I have to print out two contracts, write a large check, and then have a lunch meeting at Barney’s Beanery. After lunch, I’ll go back to prepping the next release, and then the rest of the day and evening shall be mine all mine.

Tomorrow, I’ll probably do a little work with the helper, and then we have our second rehearsal for the Gardenia show, Unsung Irving Berlin. Our merry cast of players includes, Dan Callaway, Juliana Hansen, Jane Noseworthy, Kevin Symons, and Jessica Keenan Wynn. We have a special appearance by twelve-year-old Melody Hollis, and our special guest is Jonelle Allen. It’s a great group and while the songs may not be the known Berlin classics (save for three), they’re all cherce. I’m not sure what’s happening on the weekend, but I hope it won’t be too too much, because the following week is show week and that’s always very busy. And then, of course, it starts all over again with planning the next show.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, flit about with gay abandon, print out contracts, write checks, have a lunch meeting, hopefully pick up some way overdue packages, and then finish prepping the packaging for our next release (the master probably won’t be ready until the last minute, but the sound is fantastic going in, and it’s basically just an assembly job, so it shouldn’t take all that long), and then I’ll watch a motion picture. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite Jimmy Webb songs and your favorite performances of them? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland and dream of flitting about with gay abandon.
