NAPLES. FLORIDA, THAT IS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, here I am in Naples. Naples, Florida, that is. I had a rather nice two flights, with good weather all the way. Both flights were very full, too, which surprised me. The only little problem was my ears – you know how they go nuts as you’re landing – well, they went nuts both times but never popped so I’m all sort of muffled and I hate it. We had a little hiccup at the hotel, but it was straightened out when the desk person saw I wasn’t going to budge on what I needed (a King, not two double beds – I was told I had a King when I made the reservation). The room is nice as these sorts of rooms go – free wireless, nice-sized. Once I got settled, I took a walk to the 7-11 to get some waters. Then I caught up with e-mails and such, and then I grabbed a bite to eat at a nearby coffee shop – it was nothing to write home about, and yet I wrote home about it, because home likes to know these sorts of things. On the plane, I proofed about five chapters, so I should be done proofing by the time I’m home Thursday morning. I talked to Linda briefly and found out the plan for today. And that was pretty much it. Oh, and I wrote liner notes for the next Kritzerland release, worked on the blurb for the next Gardenia show, and tried to get my ears to pop. Nothing is working in that regard. Maybe they’ll just magically pop at some point.

Naples, at least the part I’ve seen, is very odd. I mean, there must be a neighborhood somewhere, but I haven’t actually seen it yet. What I’ve seen are some scattered buildings, a few strip malls, and a couple of restaurants. I suppose I’ll see more of an actual town today when we got to wherever we’re doing the show. The one amazing thing was that I got in at 4:45 and got a cab and there were no cars on the freeway, no traffic at all. And apparently that’s the way it is in Naples. Florida, that is. I have no idea about the traffic in Naples, Italy.

I think I’ve covered everything that happened, and I’m too tired to just extemporize and be pithy. If my damn ears would pop I could be pithy. The popping would promulgate pith and there would be pith all over these here notes. But, noooo, the ears are refusing to pop and I am too pooped to try to make them pop and I’m at a complete loss as to how to do so anyway.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’ve got to get these here notes posted and get to bed, because today is going to be a very long day and then I have to be in a cab at four-thirty in the morning.

Today, after I hopefully get a good night’s sleep, I shall meet Miss Linda Purl and Mr. Gregory Harrison downstairs at twelve-thirty, and we shall go to the venue. Then we’ll rehearse, do a run-through, and I’ll work with the lighting guy. I’d imagine we’ll then come back to the hotel, get ready, then head back to the theater at some point. I know there are two shows, but I’m not sure of the times – maybe seven and nine. I hope I’m back to the hotel by ten-thirty at the latest so I can plop into bed and get some sort of sleep before getting up at four.

Tomorrow, of course, I shall be on my way home, first to Houston and then to LA. Once home, I have a lot to do, and then on Friday we ship twenty-five boxes of CDs – THAT will be a crazy day. The weekend is fairly light, I think, at least I hope it is.

This congestion and mucous stuff keeps hanging on – I need to beat it the HELL off me because I am truly tired of it. As Babs Streisand once said, “Enough Is Enough.”

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, try to get a good night’s sleep, I must rehearse, I must see two performances, I must go to sleep and I must come home. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I continue to hope my ears will pop here in Naples. Florida, that is.
