March 1, 2011:

THE ARRIVAL OF MARCH

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is March. I ask you, where else on all the Internet can you get such information? Nowhere, that’s where. Yes, the first two months of 2011 are done, we’ve given February its marching papers, and March is here, and I hope and pray it will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful. The final day of February, which I anticipated might have a little drama, was actually a very nice and relaxing day. I got up at six in the morning and announced the new Kritzerland title, Ordeal By Innocence by Pino Donaggio (of Carrie fame). I then went right back to bed and slept until nine. Then I got up and printed orders, had a couple of telephonic calls, answered many e-mails and then went off to have an early luncheon at the Studio CafĂ©, where I had my beloved chopped Eyetalian salad, consisting of greens, turkey, garbanzo beans, and mozzarella, with balsamic vinaigrette dressing. I ate it leisurely while listening to four children scream and yell and behave poorly at the booth next to mine. The mothers of these loud children were the usual “children can do anything they want to anywhere they want to do it” type of today’s parents. Their biggest threat to them was that they’d have no cake when they got home. That did not deter the loud children in the least and I can guarantee you they got the cake anyway. Entitlement should not be instilled in children from the time they are born, and yet, that’s exactly what parenting is today. Thank goodness there are still wonderful parents raising children in wonderful ways – they seem to be few and far between, but they’re out there and you know it the minute you meet their kids. After lunch, I went to the mail place and picked up no mail and two packages. Eventually, a third package arrived and I went back to get it. I printed out more orders, finally had the telephonic conversation that I thought might have drama attached to it, but, as it turned out, there was no drama at all, because even though the jerk who tries to cause me and other labels trouble, he fails miserably – this call actually had nothing to do with Kritzerland and I merely told the woman she’d have to talk to the people it did involve. Thankfully, I’d already been told who the woman was and I’d already been advised that I didn’t have to say squat to her about anything, which is exactly what I said – nicely, of course. After all that, it was finally time to sit on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled 48 Hrs, starring Mr. Nick Nolte and Mr. Eddie Murphy. It’s a very enjoyable film but, for me, doesn’t quite achieve greatness. It’s always fun to see my pal Annette O’Toole and she’s cute as a button here, although not much screen time. Mr. Nolte is grizzled and gruff, but it’s Mr. Murphy who walks away with the film right from his first appearance. It’s a tour-de-force performance and one look at him in this film and there was no doubt he would become a popular favorite. The transfer is getting poor marks from the usual suspects who simply don’t understand that this film was always ugly looking, at least in its release prints – therefore, the transfer is hardly to blame. I have no idea if it could be better, but it certainly replicates the grainy look of the original prints. The score by James Horner works quite nicely, too. Thankfully, there are no extras at all, so we just get the movie and don’t have to have the magic of it ruined by too much information.

After that, I did a little work on the computer for an upcoming release, took a shower, and began the notes, as I’m posting them early and getting to bed. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’ve been up since six and I am ready for my beauty sleep.

Today, I shall do some stuff with the helper. The old helper’s boyfriend is now completely out of the picture, thank goodness. I found out yesterday morning that he hadn’t bothered to ship over 100 International orders – they’ve just been sitting at his house. What an amateur. So, the helper spent most of yesterday getting everything shipped out and now she has to ship the stuff from over the weekend and then we will finally, at long last, be caught up until the Audrey Rose CDs arrive. I’m so happy not to EVER have to deal with the boyfriend again and to have someone who knows what they’re doing and who understands the importance of actually doing it. Then I’ll do errands and whatnot, eat, and then we have our stumble-through.

Tomorrow is sound check, then show time, and I hope we have a good crowd – I’ve been spoiled the last couple of shows. The rest of the week is filled with meetings, meals, and I’m taping a haineshisway.com radio show with Mr. Donald Feltham on Thursday evening, which I’m sure will be fun.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do some stuff with the helper, do errands and whatnot, eat, and have a stumble-through. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your all-time favorite “buddy” movies? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, as I hit the road to dreamland whilst welcoming March, a month that I hope and pray will be filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful.
