KRITZERLAND AT THE GARDENIA 8

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we performed Kritzerland at the Gardenia – The Alan Menken Album last night to a full house and wonderful audience. I really had fun with my patter and didn’t rely on the paper as much as I have with the other shows. Lots of nice laughs. The performers did wonderfully, each and every one. Juliana had a lot of friends there and her songs all were great. Alet had some trouble on Part Of Your World, which, in rehearsal had been incredible but was less so last night, but mostly because she used the wrong mic and it threw her (one mic for the boys, one for the girls) – the sound guy wasn’t prepared for that and it was just odd that after seven shows she picked up the wrong one – it was still good, but I could tell it had thrown her. But I am here to tell you she absolutely killed with her other two numbers – KILLED. Sharon McNight came through and forgot nothing and also killed with Poor Unfortunate Souls. Kirsten did great – she was recuperating from a cold, but she still socked over her three numbers. Roger also did terrifically as did Dan Callaway. And little Melody – as always, she brought the house down. All in all, a wonderful evening. We had lots of wonderful comments after the show, and a lot of first-timers said they’d be back for sure in May for our Charles Strouse show. I must say that as hard as it is to do one of these after another, I just love doing them and working with such wonderful folks. So, onto the next.

Prior to the show, I’d gotten up at eight thanks to a symphony played by lawnmowers, trash trucks, and tree trimmers. It was a one-movement symphony that promptly ended at eight-fifteen as if a conductor had been conducting – it was hilarious – all noise just suddenly ceased. I was back asleep five minutes later and slept until the doorbell rang at ten. I had to do some work on the computer, answer e-mails, and then I went to do some errands and whatnot. Then we did our sound check, after which I came back to the San Fernando Valley, picked up a couple of packages, and then came home and did a mile and a half jog. I printed out the patter, shaved and showered, and then it was time to go to the Gardenia.

After the show, a few of us went out for a bite to eat – I’d had the salmon at the show, so I had a small pastrami sandwich for my snack. It wasn’t really too good, actually, but it hit the spot. That made the spot angry and the spot promptly hit the pastrami back and then it turned into a real bitch-slapping.

Obviously I had no time to watch any motion pictures, and I received a few more DVDs in the mail that were part of that big Warner Archive sale – I’m most anxious to see The Green Slime.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because it’s one-thirty in the morning and my eyes are tired and bleary as well as bleary and tired.

Today, I have to start prepping the Charles Strouse show, and I also have to get everything ready for our Monday announcement (I’ll announce here tomorrow at midnight and believe me you will not want to procrastinate on this title), and then I have to attend some kind of meeting at LACC that I said I’d attend – they’re looking for input about changes to their acting curriculum – I don’t really know what I’d have to say about that but if I think of anything I’m sure I’ll say it without hesitation. After that (it ends at five) I’ll come home and then watch some motion pictures.

Tomorrow, I have to figure out a time when we can enter the final corrections to the book so we can get it off to the publishers. I assume that might happen on the weekend. On Saturday, the helper will be back and she’ll have to ship several overseas orders that I could not do, as well as attend to several other things. And then she begins her big task of doing all the labels and postage for Pirates, which will hopefully be here on Monday morning.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, start planning the Charles Strouse show, prep our release announcement, attend a meeting, eat, and then watch motion pictures. Today’s topic of discussion: If you could have one pet (other than one you may already have) what would it be? And tell us about your favorite pets of old, whatever they were. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland where I will dream of lovely things like butterfly wings and also Buffalo wings.
