RESTED, ENERGIZED, AND READY TO GO

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this week is flying by, like a gazelle in a steam bath. And, of course, I must get to bed at a reasonable hour because this very evening is our eighth Kritzerland at the Gardenia show and I must be rested, energized, and ready to go. Our stumble-through rehearsal went very smoothly for the most part – a few fumfered lyrics here and there but overall it was great. I was happy to see that the show structure and song order worked really well – it was hard to sequence because several of the songs are “I want” songs, several are huge anthem-like numbers, and you just have to be careful where all those fall in the show. We have one song more than we usually do, but the contextual commentary for this show is somewhat shorter than the other shows we’ve done, since many of the songs don’t need huge set-ups. After the rehearsal, we smoothed out a few tempo problems and that was that.

Prior to rehearsal, I’d had a very long day. I had to pack up and ship about twenty orders. That took quite a while, but I got them to the postal office and on their merry way. I also picked up a few packages at the mail place. I did some errands and whatnot, then came home and proofed about four more chapters, then did a mile and a half jog. My legs are quite sore at the moment, but hopefully that will pass and I’ll start increasing the length of the jog as well as the jog of the length.

After rehearsal, the twelve-year-old, her parents, and I went out for dinner to Marie Callender’s. We’re actually becoming very friendly and I really like her folks a lot and Melody and I together – well – it’s very amusing and very wacky, and these dinners are more entertaining than most theater that I see these days. I had their wonderful bacon cheeseburger, a small salad, and some fries. Melody has been badgering me to read the new Adriana Hofstetter book – she loves the previous three and just wouldn’t stop asking when she could read it. So, when I Xeroxed the finished book design version I made her a copy, even though I hadn’t proofed it yet, and I gave it to her last night.

After dinner, I came home and finished proofing the book. So, now I’ll go back to Mr. Grant Geissman’s when he has a couple of hours, and we’ll be able to enter the corrections very quickly and then it will all go off to the publisher next week, and we should have a galley within a couple of weeks. Because they simply print the PDF we give them, that galley is normally approved in five minutes, after I give it the once-over. After that, I should have test books two weeks later, and once I approve those, then we’ll take pre-orders and the books should arrive two weeks later. We’ll do the usual Glendale signing (probably in June), and for this fourth book in the series, we may try to do a signing in New York at one of the mystery bookshops. We shall see.

I have so many movies here to catch up on. I think I’ll start with the new DVD of The Mountain, because I haven’t seen it since it came out and as a kid I remember liking it. I’ve also got a DVD called Rope Of Sand – it sounded good, and it’s got Burt Lancaster and Peter Lorre in it, so how bad can it be? Then I’ve got the Blu and Ray of the Sherlock Holmes movies to start going through, as well as Fiddler on the Roof, And Justice For All, and quite a few others, including the very long The Greatest Story Ever Told and King of Kings.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I really must get my beauty rest so I can be rested, energized, and ready to go.

Today, I shall try to sleep in a bit, and then I have some errands and whatnot to do, and I have to make a few appointments, including one with Teddy because I have become quite unkempt in the last couple of weeks. Then we do a sound check at two, then I’ll come home, rest, and then mosey on back to the Gardenia at seven for dinner and show time. From what I understand, we should have a pretty good crowd.

Tomorrow, I must dive right in to the next Gardenia show – figuring out songs, pulling charts, and getting music we don’t have, as well as casting it. I want to get everything done by next Wednesday so the singers have plenty of time with their material. Fortunately, I know what the show is and already have a couple of cast members, and the musical director is already booked and I’m hoping he will secure the guest star I want. Friday will be more of the same, and I’m not really sure what’s happening on the weekend yet.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, sleep in, do some errands and whatnot, jog, hopefully pick up a couple of packages, make some appointments, do a sound check, sup, and then do the eighth Kritzerland at the Gardenia show. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland and arise rested, energized, and ready to go.
