IF THE SHOE FITS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, there is an old saying that goes, “If the shoe fits, wear it.” I have always thought this was a very good saying, haven’t you? And I have always lived by it and therefore if a shoe fits, I wear it. Conversely, if a shoe doesn’t fit I don’t wear it – why would I wear an ill-fitting shoe? Whoever came up with “If the shoe fits, wear it” was obviously a shoe salesman or maybe even the man who invented the shoe, who, as we all know, was Wilbur E. Shoe. Oh, there were things on people’s feet before Mr. Shoe came up with what he called the shoe, but they weren’t called shoes. They were called other things like sandals or things you put on your feet. But it was the genius of Mr. Shoe to finally come up with a new kind of thing for the feet and when he saw them on his very own feet he thought, well, I can’t call them sandals, for they are not sandals, and I can’t call them things you wear on your feet because that’s unwieldy, so the easiest thing to call them are shoes. And so, Mr. Wilbur E. Shoe invented the shoe. Sadly, he didn’t take out a patent, he didn’t copyright his invention and he ultimately passed away penniless save for the pennies in his loafers, a shoe he also invented when he was loafing one day. These stories always cause me ire, when people like Wilbur E. Shoe don’t get their just desserts and come to an end unknown and unappreciated. So, here’s to Wilbur E. Shoe, a visionary and a loafer.

Well, that was a waste of a paragraph, wasn’t it? Still, I think that you dear readers will at least have a greater appreciation of Mr. Shoe’s shoes. Now, don’t I have some notes to write? I do, and I shall, not necessarily in that order. Yesterday was a pretty okay day. I didn’t get to bed until about one-thirty and I slept till ten and would have slept longer were it not for an unexpected visit from a friend picking up some CDs. We chatted for a while, and then I answered e-mails, printed out some orders, did a little writing, had a couple of telephonic conversations, at which point our MD for the next Gardenia show arrived and we spent two hours going over the songs and doing some arrangement work. He’s all set now and will be ready for today’s rehearsal. I was then quite hungry, but first I went to the mail place where I picked up one package and one important envelope. I then did some banking, and then I thought I deserved a nice meal so I went to Hugo’s (still crowded at four o’clock) and had my small Caesar salad and my pasta papa, both of which were yummilicious. After that, I came home and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Lunch Hour, a British motion picture from Britain, starring Miss Shirley Anne Field and Mr. Robert Stephens. The film is about a lunch hour tryst between two co-workers, one of whom is married. The film takes place in real time (it runs sixty-two minutes) but has several flashbacks and other storytelling devices, which keep it from becoming too stage bound. It’s not a great film or anything, but I’m a fan of both actors and the film’s brevity works in its favor. The transfer is nice on this region B Blu and Ray. After that, I watched the first thirty minutes of a motion picture I’d TIVOd entitled Manhattan. It remains my favorite Woody Allen film and I’ll have more to say after I finish watching.

After that, I did some more work on our upcoming title, took a shower, and then listened to some music. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I need as much beauty sleep as I can get before a very busy day, which begins quite early.

Today, I shall be up quite early, and then helper and CDs will arrive and we’ll ship out a LOT of Mulholland Falls CDs – I can’t wait for those who ordered to hear this fantastically great score. That will take a few hours, and then I have errands and whatnot to do, writing to do, magic to do, and then it will be time for our two-hour rehearsal, after which I’m sure I’ll get a little something to eat.

Tomorrow, two of our cast members have to have a rehearsal (one can’t be there today and one can’t be there Friday), otherwise it’s a day filled with writing on two different projects, maybe three. Thursday I have an early lunch meeting that might prove interesting for any number of reasons, and Friday, Jason Graae and I will go to my engineer’s home environment to do the final fixes on his CD, after which we’ll start prepping the packaging. And then we have our second Gardenia rehearsal that afternoon.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the mambo, because today is the birthday of our very own dear reader Jeanne, who I’ve known since she was, what, fourteen or fifteen? So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own dear reader Jeanne, who I’ve known since she was, what, fourteen or fifteen? On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN DEAR READER JEANNE, WHO I’VE KNOWN SINCE SHE WAS, WHAT, FOURTEEN OR FIFTEEN!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, ship CDs, do errands and whatnot, write, have a rehearsal, and sup. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite films of Mr. Woody Allen? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, and do remember that if the shoe fits you know who to thank – Wilbur E. Shoe.
